It's too bad that people have to question me like I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
oh well
I never posted here to offend anyone just to talk about pickups. :dunno:

If you are a tone chaser like myself, these slight differences mean a lot.

Easy dude. There are plenty of tone chasers here. We also are able to speak freely here and the fact that you can actually play doesn't make you that exclusive on this forum. On other forums, maybe so. There are a lot of guys who can really play here but I don't think that gives them free reign to just say something and to never have it's validity called into question. Gainfreak can play. That doesn't mean he can just go off on one of his "Stryper has the greatest tone ever" rants without some of us calling him an Oz Fox groupie. :D I am no where near a good enough player to come on here and think that any opinion I give should not be disputed by the "peasants".

I don't dispute that you know what you are talking about. You have 24 posts though and that isn't really time for anyone here to really "get" what you are all about.

And since you do know what you are talking about. And since you are a tone chaser. You have to agree that there is no way you can deduce from Marks clip on a guitar you have never played, through an amp you have never played with a recording technique different than your own that you can perceive the same "slight difference" between vintage and new DSD's that you have noticed while doing the same comparison in person.

And I don't care what anyone says, you were a great freaking replacement for Bobby Black in the Ford Fairlane movie.

Curt is one of the coolest cats you'll find anywhere and has politely pointed out the flaw in what you have said. You sound like you're taking offense where there is none to be taken. I have no doubt that you've made the comparison yourself (I've noticed the same thing with old and new Duncan JBs) and offered up an educated opinion...very cool and thats what we do around here (among other things). He was simply making the point that you can't reliably compare your findings to what you hear in a clip due to all of the other variables...everything you pointed out could be attributed to a different piece of the puzzle. All of it is speculation until the same player uses the same guitar through the same amp on the same settings...preferably as close to the same time as possible.

Relax a bit and you'll like it here...keep the "edge" and I'm fairly confident you won't.

Thanks Bill....... I was wondering if there was anyone left at Rig Talk or if it was a ghost town today. The guy has some cool clips so I know he probably has some cool opinions on tone...... I just felt like maybe I had somehow gone back in time and was talking to some 20 year old Swedish cat who had just teamed with Graham Bonnett in some new band. :D

Excellent stuff as always rockstah!!!   I prefer the Super Distortion clip, but not by much.

KILLER TONE!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Stryper has great tone ever?? Lol wow!
When it comes to guitar players, I love unique tones. I was never a fan of plain vanilla tones and always gravitated towards hot rodded or over exagerated guitar sounds. (That's why I alway love Ed)

I know that guys will either love or hate the Stryper sound (mostly hate) But I dig it and freely admit it :D

Mark,
Did you do the clip with the exact same settings on the amp?
Exactly everything the same!

I think that a nudge up on the bass knob and the gain would help the lower output Brownbucker to sound ballsier and achieve a similar level of meanness. Maybe.

That you normally don't like PAF style pickups means a lot too. For some reason, I always find myself going back to them. There is just something in that clarity and openness about them I really dig.

Back on track...my buddy just got hired as Stryper's tour manager. I think he said they're doing some shows in India soon?
He somehow became friends with Oz years ago and has teched for him in the past...in fact he's the guy who turned Oz on to the GMWs he's using now.

Chubtone, The Detroiter has the perfect openness of a paf... For my les Paul... Haven't tried in my vh setup... Yet :)
