Bucketheads tone

He was using those heads with a midiverb a few years ago when I saw him and he was getting the best tones from clean to scream that I’ve heard live

love me some Buckethead .... he's been using the EVH's for quite awhile now .... I saw him back in 2017 and 2018 ..... both times were EVHs

I could never get into him. How has he managed to go this long without any real photos posted of his face?!

Maybe it’s just this recording then because this isn’t my opinion of good tone

Ugh.

I thought I was listening to the soundtrack of a 1950s Sci Fi movie. Like his guitar was going through a synth, a bad synth.

Yeah I don’t know what’s going on here, when I saw him though it was top notch, he did a bunch of zep and Hendrix songs and I wasn’t quite sure how he was getting the lower gain tones he was but they were stellar

Bucket head for an awesome. It can get pretty out there for most but I’m a big fan . Definitely has a style of his own

I LOVE Buckethead. Saw him live twice.

I was just listening to him today. His tone changed quite a bit throughout his albums. He’s used all kinds of amps.

I listen to this album a lot:

I wouldn’t use a shitty phone vid taken from the front of the stage as a good indicator of what it sounded like in the rest of the venue. Sounded like the dude was close enough to be getting the stage volume of the cabs or the venue had those little shitty speakers along the front of the stage.

His tone has been hit or miss over the years, I don’t think he focuses on it much at all outside of “this is a hi-gain tone that works”. I saw him open for Primus back in ‘98 or ’99, I think he was using a Dual Rec then. He came out during Primus’ set and couldn’t hear himself, walks over to this amp and cranked the fuck out of it, I was standing in the front row, probably 30 feet from the amp and it’s all I could fucking hear. I’m surprised the dude doesn’t use a modeler, really.

Guy’s been doing this for over 30 years, still rolls on tour with his gear like a high school band throwing shit into gym bags. He’ll have a bunch of pedals on the floor just tossed down, some kind of iPod or playback system just tossed on his amp. You’d think it’d be easier to get everything on a board instead of dealing with that mess.

Saw him live quite a few years ago. He sounded absolutely killer. The man is a master. Pretty sure the amp is not as important as the player

i was gonna say, maybe my tone judgements were skewed due to his unbelievable playing, i think he might be the greatest all around guitar player ever

100%.

Once you deep dive into his 300+ albums you’ll realize how incredible he really is. From shredding, to blues, chicken pickin, and extremely soulful ballads. He does it all.

This album is a trip. Goes from chill and laid back to heavy and all over. Love this one:

Virtuoso level ability, a Long scale guitar into a 5153 50 watt, a killswitch or two and a pair of nunchucks. If you have some farm chickens scurrying about on your floor, just remember its part of the signal chain!

I saw him @ Toad’s Place a while ago and he’s a virtuoso-level player. I’m not super into his music but like a few songs. He was a little boring to listen to live however.

He hails from my area and I have several friends that went to high school with him plus he received lessons at a local "mom and pop" store from a guitar teacher that helped some other friends get to this level.

He ended up becoming a guitar teacher there as well.

I remember him from his early days in a band called "The Deli Creeps" where they would dress up a little bit on stage as part of their show.

BH would wear a Michael Myers mask (or a Jason mask) and the singer would wear a bloody butcher's apron and the other members would dress similarly.

Their sound was really weird :)

I think that I might still have their cassette demo somewhere at home.

I did respect his lead playing.

He would tap out pretty much most of his scales at a very quick rate.

There was a guy that tried out for my old band Epitaph and he was pretty far away from our style and even our sound and especially our personalities.

I had come across him several years later after BH had given him lessons and he had improved a lot and was even mimicking BH's signature lead riffs.

Another friend of mine sends me text messages with various songs of BH's and they seem to range in styles.

Yep he lived about 10 mins from me in Claremont.

The house he lived in on Oxford was up for sale a few years back. You can see the interior of it in some of his videos.

Deli Creeps also has great songs.

I had lived in Claremont for several years (about 4 blocks away from where he was giving guitar lessons) and not too far away from Oxford Avenue.

I think that I'll have to look around for that Deli Creeps demo since this talk is bringing back some memories.

The Deli Creeps shows were at the Scream in Pomona.

Styles Music at Foothill/ Towne, right?

Young Buckethead's gear? A Heartfield Talon with a basswood body, 2 DiMarzio X2N's and a Rockman amp head.

Heartfield guitars were made by Fender.
