Anyone a fan of these speakers? Do they work better in a closed back or opened back cab?

I read that they are made by Eminence and sound kind of like a cross between a CL80 and V30. Just read about these speakers today and was curious.

It appears too they are not sold separately and that you have to buy them in a Budda cab or on the used market.

I was curious about them because I've seen them for sale used for decent prices. I've seen a couple people rave about them but even more Budda owners complain about them and replace them with other speakers. Budda amps are expensive. It wouldn't seem they would skimp on the speakers.

I haven't heard positive things obout the Phat's from just reading user reviews and former owners.
I have a lead on a Budda 4x12 with these speakers, but not sure its worth the risk if I just have to swap them out....

It sounds really similar to what I read about the Splawn speakers, like the small blocks.

I saw a post about a person using a Budda phat 12 in a mesa mark IV combo and he said it helped R2 alot. That is what perked my interest. :D

I have a little experience with this speaker. Seems like it's a kinda dark, smooth speaker which has worked great with most amps I have used it with ( Soldano, Crate V30). It sounded good with a Budda SD30 I had a while back. I recently got another Budda SD30 and have been playing it through a 4x12 with 1970's G12M25 and Eminence GB128's in a X pattern and like it alot, in fact I think I may like the Budda better with the G12M25/GB128 mix, it's got a little more bit that way. The Budda is already a somewhat dark and smooth amp so pairing it with the Phat 12 maybe too dark and smooth for some people's tatse, but the SD30 did clean up on the OD channel by rolling back the guitar volume ALOT better with the Phat 12.
YMMV.
