Are the pre Peavey versions of this any different or better than the new ones? My friend has one in his practice space and he says it doesn't have enough gain?

So it's more like 2 questions is it supposed to have a lot of gain? and Are the pre Peavey ones superior?

I've played both and didn't notice any major differences. They both sounded great to my ears. I thought that it had enough gear, but I tend to run my amp gain around noon most of the time on most amps. If I recall correctly, I had the gain around 2:00 on the SD 80.

I had a pre-Peavey SD80 and it had plenty of gain for me. Did it have 5150 levels of gain? No. More gain than a stock JCM800 with more of a lower mid push like a Bogner.

I don't think the Peavey ones should sound any different (for the clips I heard). The differences I heard were slight and could be chalked up to different amps, tubes, etc. and nothing to do with pre or post Peavey production.
