Ok, let's talk buffers. Apparently 40ft of cable before the amp kills tone...lol! Right now I'm using a Boss SD-1 to get some of my highs back, but I would like to get that off my board and just use a dedicated buffer. So what's out there and what's the best for the money? Thanks!

I like the suhr buffer because it is built into the koko boost or their compressor pedal which kills two birds with one stone. If you have been in the market for a boost or compressor get one of those because it already has a great quality buffer. Plus you will never pick up a pedal that's build so well.

I was using the buffer in my Boss TU2 which was not bad, but came across a Wampler Clean without the on/off switch for cheap and it is soo much better. I am only using about 25ft between Gtr->pedals>Amp..

What the hell do you need 40ft of cable for?

I have 40' in front of mine - 20' from the amp to the board, 20' from the board to the guitar. Not really that unusual.

Yup. You play a decent size stage 20+20 definitely isn't over kill.

I've been looking at either the Mesa Stowaway or the Suhr. Just not sure which on to get.

I have 2 pedalboards. One the first one I have one of the TC electronics buffers and it works great! The other board for my mini-jube is much smaller and I use the Boss Waza tuner with the built in buffer. Works great as well.

Tube buffers allow pickups to maintain the electrical relationship between pickup and tube which is better for a real tube amp feel when using pedals. Best ones in my opinion are effecteode glass a, sarno black box and vht valvulator in that order. SS do the job but tubes maintain the feel.

LASD PI-01 buffer. Top notch product, Jensen isolation transformers with send and return to focus the effects in the buffered chain and exclude trouble devices wahs, vibes, fuzzes. volume pedals.

I have this on my pedalboard...handles all that and more.

What is going to the board, your effects loop or a mic on your cab?

Empress Buffer + is exceptional! I have it on my board. Lots of useful bells and whistles.

I think he meant; 20' from guitar to pedalboard, then 20' from pedalboard to amp.

yeah sorry I should have clarified. Usually a mic'd cab. 20' cable from the amp input to the pedalboard. Then a 20' into the input of the pedalboard from the guitar.

Dont your pedal have buffers built in.. Iv never ever hear of using buffers... Sounds like snake oil to me fellas.

Snake oil?! You must not have a very discerning ear. It's pretty apparent when running a handful of pedals that you start to lose "treble/high end" in your tone.....as opposed to plugging straight into the amp. A Buffer helps to retain or add back that lost high end or treble.

To the OP;

*Suhr Buffer
*T1M Buffer
*Rjm Buffer

I use the Suhr Buffer as the first pedal on my board....Then a T1M Buffer in my effects loop effects chain. This combo really helps to retain the natural tone.

I've used the boss tuner to start my pedal board forever. Seems to work fine, but maybe there is a better solution to consider

EVH just used EQ pedals.

He had long cables going from his pedalboard into his Echoplexes and Univox delays and then more cables going from them into the amps and he just used EQ pedals to get over the cable loss.

Seemed to work for him.
