But when I look at the controls it ain't the same as a MkV like many said.

Comparing a NEW Bugera to a USED Boogie ain't really fair I guess. With a new amp you also buy warranty, fresh caps and latest technology. Like the tube protection and auto bias stuff they got in there. It sounds good to me on the vid for sure.

Sure it's a fair comparison. The Boogie won't need a warranty anyway, while the Bugera will.

Yeah, it sounds nice, but I'd rather not support intellectual property thieves if I can avoid it. Especially since they're such arrogant dicks that they don't even try to hide the fact that they're thieves. 6260? A "BC30" with a lit logo? "Trirec"?

I get that the Rectifier and 5150 are based on the SLO, and on and on, but at least they weren't so damn blatant about it. And the Recto and 5150 are actually solid, reliable amps.

I don't know, I have mixed feelings.

Is it better to rip off a design, and give no homage to the original and put your own fancy logo and look to it?

Or is being upfront about ripping off the designs, and making a lower cost alternative to the amps and making it quite obvious, the more ethical choice?

Companies like Behringer have been doing this for years. I get pissed at them ripping things off, but then always kinda appreciate that they at least make it painfully obvious. Any decently informed consumer knows what is going on.

Those "homages" have cost them a lot in legal fees.  Apparently the companies/people being copied didn't exactly feel all warm and fuzzy about the tribute.

As for the whining about how expensive Mesa is in the US; Diezel, Framus, Engl, anyone? Engl, with the exception of the Savage 120, is basically the Peavey of Germany, yet they're incredibly expensive, IMO. I don't get upset, I just buy something else. Or get one used.

I think it will be on the new Axe II. The preset will be called "the amp pretending to be an amp pretending to be another amp".

 :( :D

  that was deep!!!

That demo certainly did not have me checking in my wallet for a grand.

I bet that dude in the video could make any amp sound good. Hes a very good player

It could hardly be a Mk5 knock off as the control layout is totally different. I particularly like the cleans on the vid. I wonder how well the power caling works.

peavey is cheap here too! yes we do have some upcharges but nothing over 10-20% max. ENGL quality is better than peavey, so it has its own market, and is NOT a lot more in the US...even with diezel! a used VH4 in USA it's like 2800$=1958€, in Europe is 1900-2000€....so no big deal or EXTREME upcharges right there...Mesa is like 3 times more than in the US....it's obvious that there are thousands of europeans trying to buy mesa oversea or searching the market for an affordable copy....

Right, because they'd never change the layout slightly to avoid being sued. Don't be naive.

In a lawsuit filed against Behringer by Aphex designs, Behringer insisted that their product was an original design. Then someone took an off the shelf Behringer unit, opened it up, and read "Aphex Designs" on the circuit board. Apparently the guy who xeroxed the Aphex PCB couldn't read english, so he didn't know to remove the name from the board.

What differentiates the Savage? FWIW, its the only ENGL head that I've tried that I liked (and I liked it a lot).

It sounds good? Every other Engl I've heard or played sounds mediocre to me, whereas the Savage 120 was fucking awesome. I love that head.

Well, everyone I know KNOWS that's what Behringer (and Bugera) are all about. So I appreciate that I can quickly notice that it's just a rip off and cheap and can focus on products that actually deserve my money. They certainly don't do a good job of hiding it if they are trying.

I don't get the comlpaints about stuff being more expensive in America.

Everything is cheaper in America. Housing, Cars, car insurance, petrol, gear. Plus a lot of the gear that I'd like to own is only available in America or there's nowhere to try it out. There's only one Jet City dealer in England for example.

Exactly, everything is cheaper. And you get what you pay for.

Petrol. That's gas, right? :D

Petrol is cheaper, yes. But I'm guessing you don't have to drive 40 miles each way to work, right? For some of us, that's the only option we've got.
