Looks like those tomatoes are going to deliver. :yes: Keep them bugs off if that is what is going on.

The beef steak tomatoes are exploding in number. I had a worm bore a small hole into one but mostly they are bug free without pesticide. I've never much success with tomatoes so I'm excited. My cherry tomatoes aren't producing as well so far. I think I need neem oil for the taters as I've had some beetles munching the leaves a little more aggressively than I would like. I been working on another, larger raised bed...the expansion continues.
 
Yeah, it was the leaves I was looking at - but most look healthy. Keep us updated.
 
I harvested the first tomato ever in my life today! Four actually, but one had been consumed by worms and one was only cherry tomato size but was ripe so I ate it. Pretty good. The others are ripening in my window. I should be making out nicely in the next two weeks.
 
Tomatoes been multiplying.

And my cherry tomato has started kicking them out. Best cherry tomatoes I've ever had....bordering on the sweetness of an actual cherry. I'd provide photographic evidence but I ate all the cherry tomatoes earlier. Been using cilantro with my tacos but my potatoes are kinda rough looking. A little hot to be growing them this time of year I guess.
 
Getting some decent results though some of the beefsteaks are pretty small. Seems like the bigger ones came up first and the rest have been smaller. The cherry tomato is in full production. Amazing flavor, almost as sweet as regular cherries. Tomatoes as they are supoosed to be!

Are those some sungolds? I bet with all that rain that you are all recieving that many people are dealing with splitting

They are beefsteaks. I forget what the cherry tomato variety is. I had a couple cherry tomatoes split but it's basically a good, bumper crop as far as I can tell. I plan on starting some more for a late season harvest.

Yeah I know but the wife is in school with limited time and money is exceedingly tight so canning equipment isn't really in the cards right this second but yeah, I wish. Especially come deer season as I plan on stuffing the deep freeze this year. I have more work to handle around here than I have time for right now plus I jacked my back up hauling rock last week so I been laid up a good bit.

I grow a few tomatoes just to keep me and the wife well stocked for summer salsa, blt's and just a good ol' tomato sandwich.

Most of these were from earlier in the season. right now i'm giving tomatoes away lol

Wow awesome bro! Your maters are huuuuge! I'm jealous of your nice flat plush ground! Thanks for sharing your garden with me.

I'm giving tomatoes away too, lol. I been eating a lot of them but getting more than I can stand to eat. I'm getting down to the last couple batches as most of what's there has ripened. I started more plants that way I can get another crop out of this year hopefully since it stays warm into october or november.

To top it off the wife asked me to harvest some prickly pear fruits so I did that this morning too, as they are getting ripe. A good cold water rinse and some agitation seems to have removed the prickles.

I need canning equipment. :yes:

man i got super lucky...northwest Arkansas isn't known for lots of great flat rockless ground lol. I've got a foot of really great topsoil around this little ridge we live on. i try and mulch this spot and I think that helps a little. I'm a true casual when it comes to the garden - it's more of a hobby and makes me feel connected to my grandparents. Some of my earliest memories are of my grandpa working in the garden. Depression-era folks like them did it out of necessity and never stopped (and we probably ought to think like them now more than every). We love tomatoes, but i've canned a few before and honestly we didn't touch them lol.

I'm intrigued by the prickly pear fruit! what does it taste like?

I love saving money and not having to rely on going to the store. Having some basics around the house is nice. I just want to keep expanding so if we get hit with higher prices or economic collapse I've got a little stash running. I need to think about chickens again, I just don't want a big feed bill.

Prickly pear fruit tastes kind of like plums. It's pretty good and I have a lot of them in the yard so I need to start utilizing them. Should make some great jam. She's talking about grabbing some canning equipment this week.
