Built a shell for Slo100R Silver Bullet! I mean purple! lol

I got a Slo100R from a friend a few weeks ago, and completely HATED the way it fit on my cab...wished they made a headshell that I could toss the rackmount unit in....Soldano can build one but its 350 bucks...OUCH. Well off to Lowes for 10 bucks worth of wood, took the rack rails out of the box that was sent to me with the Slo, busted out the miter saw, and built a box on my own!! LOL I still need to decide on wether I want side handles or a top handle, as my design right now is pretty rudimentary, and isnt exactly built for strength...but since I dont gig, the thing doesnt get moved around at all...so we will see. I also need to grab some rubber feet for it. Initially I was thinking of painting it purple to match the head, then saw how hard and expensive it was to get a hold of purple stain. Said screw it and initially painted it with some silver sparkle paint, but the can of paint must have been old as dirt as all I initially got was sparkle and no silver, so the paintjob went way south REALLY quick. Went back and got paint you usually use to paint picture frames and crap like that with...LOL...lost my patience waiting for it to dry and ended up with a few handprints in the paint, but all in all it isnt that bad..LOL...I screwed up the routing in a few places too when I was rounding off the edges...but all in all...10 bux in wood, 3 in paint...luckily I own a miter saw and a router.

So eventually now that I have the exact dimensions down, I will build a 6 space with room for the Furman and maybe a tuner or a wireless rig and will make it out of something nicer than knot ridden pine from lowes and will stain it a purple mist of some sort...it will be cool if I ever get around to it..LOL

Its worth a heck of a lot more than that actually..LOL I think its actually better off in what I have it in right now though....instead of 1/4 inch thick plywood I have it in 1/2 inch pine, and it looks a lot nicer sitting on my amp in that than a big plastic case that barely fits on my cab and is completely front heavy. It was the main reason I built the thing, was that the old rack was front heavy since the amp only fills the front half and the back is completely empty. We will see...I really like it and will probably build a lot nicer one now. THis one was just a quick toss together to see how it would work out. Jim S has one that he had Slo build the head box for but I just cant bring myself to shell out that kind of jack for something so simple...

HEHEHEHEHEH Like I said on the phone last night...I was completley off the wagon, only bought 1 guitar over the last 3 years...then suddenly I get this amp from you and next thing I know I have bought 5 SUhrs from you also!! LOL and a Huber and Modern Eagle to boot!! Granted I have sold a few also....but selling 2 and buying 6 is funny math to her...LOL (She must think I do accounting by Obama and am just printing up a few trillion to tide myself over)

So I tried to sand the silver off, didnt work out to well and 45 minutes into it I said screw it, went to Lowes and bought another 10 bucks worth of pine and rebuilt ANOTHER box. With the help of a few forum members, I was able to find purple stain!! Woot!! Here it is after 2 coats of clear...just one more sanding and one more coat and in a few days she will be ready to be a head shell for my rackmount slo!! LOL COuld be better, sure, but for what I have into it, I think I will love it!! I am thinking the tan leather corner protectors and tan handle but I am not sure just yet.

I finished it about an hour ago and just need to decide what kind of handle and if I want corners on it...and for the record, this is a little bit Rock-n-roll, not a lil bit country!! HAHAHAHAHHAHA

Looks like we are going to need to arrange for some sort of ampfest for the locals....I've got my Cameron XTC and Friedman Kitchen Sink (that the FedEx guy really needs to get here with, its freaking 9:30PM!), your SLO, and I know there are a few other locals....
