i have been saddled with enough amazon gift cards that I can afford a new guitar,but the thought of dropping 1300 bucks on a guitar i never played is daunting.
if i turn the cards into cash thru a service i lose about 2-300 dollars.

i once before had this same issue and bought THE most pimped out i_phone available and sold to get the cash it but it was a real pain in the ass and couldn't believe how many scammers popped up.
it also took me 2 months to sell the phone,

i will make sure i can return whatever it is that I buy but this is a first for me.
i'm leaning towards an Ibanez Koa rg prestiege;
thoughts?
thanks
So, you can buy that guitar right off amazon without loosing money going through a service and they are great with returns.

I have bought a lot of guitars online. If I buy used, I can usually flip it for a similar price if I don't like it. I know you are buying new, but perhaps go to a guitar center/local shop, and find a good manufacturer you like, and model. Plenty of consistent ones out there.

i just bought a balaguer that i couldn't play first. i freaking love it. its an amazing guitar and i couldn't be happier.

it really comes down to options. If I have a shop reasonably close that I know I can trust for small fixes if a guitar needs some and if they have the guitars I want available I prefer to go, test drive the guitar for 10-15 mins checking how it feels, fretwork and general voice and buy there. I usually do tons of research online about stuff I want to buy and walk in with a very precise idea of what to expect from a guitar.
If the above scenario is not available I prefer to buy online from a shop with a good return policy rather than a shop that is far or can't do basic fixes.. buying online I can check the guitar at home with my stuff for 30 days (1 shop here in Holland offers 60 days) with no rush to decide if I bond with it or not.. if not, back it goes.

His stuff looks great.....

I've done it and would again. Obviously it's better to play a guitar first but if I ever buy something like a high end PRS I would have to use Sweetwater's 36-48 month financing unless a shop gave me a crazy good deal. I'd probably only do it with a very high quality consistent brand if it was a high dollar item.

On the other side of it, if I was buying a $500-600 guitar I wouldn't think twice about buying from a big box store. Not like you're going to find "the one" in that price range anyway.

Just buy something that holds value, don't like it, flip it... Its like a treasure hunt !
