Buying online has become a crap-fest! Warning: incoming rant

The most recent was an alnico speaker that was delivered yesterday. Seller listed as excellent and showed up with thin/worn spots on the cone edge and a hole in the cone.

The one and only time I tried to buy a used speaker (Creamback 75) it also showed up with like a half centimeter hole in the cone right near the edge of the frame :(

Of course the seller never mentioned it

Luckily I was able to send it back with no issues but I was looking forward to checking that speaker out. Still never have :(

I was able to resolve everything over the weekend with my speaker and luckily it has a good outcome.
Originally I bought the speaker at a little over half of what it costs new. It took a few extra days and assistance from Reverb to walk us throught the process, but I got a partial refund from the seller that would cover the cost of reconing. I decided to give patching the hole myself a shot before sending it out. The patch came out well.

As it stands it's working well and should hold up for a while. It has no doping and really needs it to rein in the cone cry. If I don't F it up applying dope I'll have gotten a really nice sounding Alnico speaker for $65. If the patch breaks down or I mess up applying dope it's no harm, no foul. I'll send it to Weber for recoing and still come out ahead on costs. At least no more than what I initially paid anyway.

Thought it came out well in the end, I still think the seller was being slightly dishonest; but I will reluctantly give them the benefit of the doubt. They listed the speaker as in excellent condition and claimed the hole wasn't there when they packed it up. I obviously didn't notice anything in the listing otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I went back to the listing pictures one last time while the partial refund was being wrapped up. It just looks like a small inconsequential dark spot in the listing pictures; like a discoloration on the cone or a camera anomaly. Looking for it & knowing where the hole is it's easy to spot. It was definitely easy to see in person and I have a harder time believing the seller didn't notice it, especially seeing now that it does show up in the picture when you look for it.
