So I scored an Engl Fireball 100, received it today, and I'm fuckin blown away. This amp destroys. So brutal with such a killer tone. I've got two Marshall 4x12's, one with Scumbacks, and one with G12-65's. Also a Splawn 4x12 with Greenbacks. It sounds great through all of these cabs, but I can't help but think that they're not unleashing all of the potential evil that this amp is capable of. What's a good cab for maximum brutality? Mills Afterburner? Bogner Uberkab? Mesa Rectifier? Engl? What say you?

I'm super happy with my Bogner cabs, although they are not Uberkabs. I've never played a Fireball, but from your description I'm guessing you'll like the V30/G75T speakers in there. When it comes to brutal tones, I tend to shy away from Greenbacks and G12-65s.

Yeah, I'm totally happy with my cabs and speakers with my Marshall type amps, but for this Engl, I want something that's gonna raise Hell.

I liked my fireball through my Mesa Rectifier cab. Made it sound huge! But that cab is literally huge as well so that may have something to do with it.

Yup, I have mine sitting on an Engl Pro 4X12 with the stock V30's, sounds killer. Congrats on the Fireball 100, that's one of my favorite metal amps (I sold my SE because I kept coming back to this one).

I see what you did there.  I forgot to list that one. Been looking for those also, but not too many around used for the right price.

That cab would definitely work. How do the Standard (particle board) Engl 4x12's compare to the Pro? I'm thinking not favorably. And yes, this amp has quickly also become one of my favorite metal amps. It's unreal. I'm really digging it clean boosted. Boosted, you can engage the "bottom' and jack the bass knob and there's no flub whatsoever. It just gets deeper and darker. That's not where I live, but you can if you want without mud. This amp is a lot of fun, for sure.

I have an Avatar front load cab with 4 V12 Legends..and also use an old Crate loaded with Man o wars and Legends in an x Pattern..both sound great with the Fireball..I like the MOW/Legend a bit better as it adds some sparkle to the dark tone of the Fball. My eq knobs are all set around noon..no bottom boost...plenty without it..IMO...it would be hard to make an Engl sound bad though

The standard cab is a lot darker sounding. I have two straight Pro cabs. They're very good and very heavy. 122lbs I believe. Pretty expensive though at $1350 each though. If you can swing it, I highly recommend it. The straight cab's baffle is slightly leaned back as well, like a (now unavailable) Fryette Fatbottom. It projects upward slightly and was the cab the amp was designed to use.

Nice! Didn't know that Avatar was making front loaded cabs.

Yeah, I can't spend that on a cab right now, and I don't see any used ones available. I've actually got a Mills Acoustics Afterburner on the way. From everything I've read about them and the clips that I've heard, it should be pretty huge with a Fireball.

Nice. As long as it's front loaded, ur good. Rear loaded would be too dark.

I have a fireball and have found the best thing to pair it with is my Vader 4x12. Because the Fireball has a really crunchy tone, and while it has more than enough low end, i've found the eminence speakers work wonders with it. Absolutely crushing, i prefered it to any V30 cab (mesa/framus dragon etc).

Interesting. I dig some Eminence speakers. Which ones are you speaking of? I've got a Mills 4x12 on the way with Vintage 30's. I'm not a V30 guy, but I've heard that they just flat out kill in the Mills cab.

I've owned 3 Engl amps (SE, Powerball II, and Steve Morse sig) and a couple of Diezels, and I dearly loved them all. But the Engl and Diezel cabs are overpriced, imo. It's a guitar cab with Celestions. How can you charge almost $1,400 for it?, I A/Bed the Engl cab with a Mesa recto 4x12 and much preferred the Mesa. Better cut, bigger low end that wasn't flubby. Just a better pairing for both Engl and Diezel amps, imo. Plus, it's much cheaper.

I respect ur opinion but calling the engl pro cab flubby is way off. I wonder if you played the standard? If not, I have to question you've even played this cab. They are quite hard to find to a/b. It's got to be the tightest v30 cab ever.

Yep, I'm in on not being able to agree with this.

First, the reason why they are 12-1300 dollar cabs is because they are imported. Go to Germany, and your Mesa cab now costs more then the Engl or Diezel cab.

Second, I would like to say I have played with quite a few cabs. IMHO, the oversized recto cab sucks with anything BUT a Rectifier, too much sloppy bass with a modern head. The traditional sized Mesa cab rocks though...warmer, tight, crisp. But.... nothing gets at it like the new German made front loaded Diezel cabs for down tuned metal with a modern head like a Diezel, Bogner Uberschall, Framus Cobra, etc. Super tight and crisp. Bottom line is most metal players are going to prefer a front loaded cab like the ENGL, UberKab, fatbottom, Diezel FL, etc. over a rear loaded Marshall style cab.

I can see how you guys could read my post they way you did, but I didn't say the Diezel or the Engl cabs were flubby. I said the Mesa had a big bottom end without being flubby. It's a fine line to walk with a cab, having a low of low end that doesn't sound too loose. It's something the recto cab with stock Mesa spec-ed British V30s did amazingly well with my Engl amps. I can imagine the German cabs do well recording, but they did not give me that huge sound in my home studio.

Neither the Engl pro cab or any Diezel 4x12 I've played through could get the same low end and still remain decently tight WITH MY GEAR. Certainly, differences in guitars, strings, cables, pedals, etc, all play a role here, as does dialing in the amp.

Also, import taxes and the costs of labor in Europe vs the U.S. affect the end user price. But from the perspective of a U.S. buyer choosing a cab, you have to look at the costs here. Based on that, I'd never pay the money for an Engl or Diezel cab again. There are just too many other choices that sound as good or better for less money, with my gear.

Also, the claim that "most metal players are going to prefer a front loading cab" doesn't really make sense to me. There are many factors in a cab and its construction that affect the overall sound. Working with (or around) a front or rear loaded cab is a small thing, in my experience.
