You also must use at least .0625oz of solder. Any less and you'll lose high end. Really put that "blanket over my cab" sound.
(Lead-less solder gives you more mids too)

I'm interested in hearing from people with practical experience.

What you are referring to is called "skin effect", and has no bearing at audio frequencies, despite the bullshit touted in audiophile circles. It's not until the mHz range that it begins to show effect.
A 100w amp into a 16ohm cab is producing 40v AC at 2.5a of current. 20ga. wire is easily capable of handling that voltage and current. Take a look at the OT secondary wires of almost all guitar amps- rarely will you see anything larger than 20ga.

We are getting to the point of ridiculous on some of this shit.

Quit worrying about these make believe nuance you think you're hearing and try practicing a bit.
A lot of this is general curiosity. Some guys care about minor impacts. I didn't start this asking about how some bullshit thing will effect anything. I guess beam blockers, fiberglass panels don't work period.
I asked while disclosing that this may be pure cork sniffin' at it's finest.
Some people would prefer (such as myself) a cheaper fix vs. buying a new rig, set of pickups etc.
I guess if someone already practices 3-5 days a week and 1-3 hours at a time then it's not enough.

I was making a point about how silly tone chasing gets. A treble knob and your fingers can alter your sound more drastically than 99% of this kind of crap.
Easy guy. It's the Internet; relax.
Gotcha.
Must be all that sand in my vagina. Sorry it clouded my judgement
