what were the rest of your amp settings? sounds great.
now i am curious about this hair switch since my cali does not have it.

Hey Brad,
The Hair and Thump switch are recent additions to the growing Cali mod option list. Any new additions or changes, all get forwarded to Dan Gower to keep all the mods as consistent as possible.

Since your mod was part of the batch of mods before I stopped accepting, please contact me if you are interested. We can set up a time next month so it can be turned around within a business day.
Cheers,
Mike

 i need a line out too.

Thats sounds great Angus! Especially with the Aldrich! Someone was saying that the Aldrich sounded thin or too high or something about it not being a good lead pickup...  anyways...
Fucking right on my man...so juicy. Its amazing how tight and open it stays considering how much gain was dialed on the amp and the pickup being around 18K.

Can't wait to get mine.

Thanks man :)

I've tried a few pups in the EVH and the Aldrich sounds best to me - I think it works really well for leads, it cuts but it's not shrill.

How are ya Angus ?
That was a very good clip.
I agree with exactly what Dave said. Love that clarity.
You my friend have your own groove.
And it that ain't a bad thang.

I'm good thanks! :D Just got back from a few days away!

Thanks for the kind words :)

That was one of the best Cali clips I have ever heard. It was raw with clarity and grind based on what you were playing. Then you changed the pic attack and note and the tone got clear and smooth.

WELL DONE!!!!

This!

Thanks very much guys! :)

Yeah, I find the amp really responds to picking technique - more so than any other amp I've had

Here's a VERY quick and rough clip I did this morning of the Cali :) It was actually just the test track to see if Pro Tools was working but I was short on time so I just used that.

It was literally the first and only thing I've played today so forgive the clams and lack of direction etc! (in other words it sounds like my other clips!) I also realised afterwards that I hadn't even checked the mic position first!

Anyway, enough excuses

Bright switches to the left
Saturation to the right
Hair switch ON
Blackback G12M cab

MORE CLIPS

With any luck I'll be able to throw something together at the weekend!

Sounds great Angus, nice playing too!
How does she sound with the presence dialed way down? The only constructive criticism thing I would say is that it would get fatiguing after a while to my ears gigging with that amount of high cut.

Thanks :)

It sounds great, I had the hair switch on for the clip which adds more top end bite, sizzle and aggression - kind of along the lines of Nuno/Lynch etc., normal Cali mode is smoother. The presence is great, centred just right for me, it doesn't choke the amp off if it's set low

Oh yeah..........................AWESOME!!!!!!!

My man

The toggles to the left?? I would have thought more open would be to the right as I go to the left for stun levels :D

Dan?

Scott!

Cheers mate :) Yes, toggles to the left for the gains - gain 1 was about 3 o'clock and gain 2 was about 2 o'clock, the saturation was over to the right, believe me there was a LOT of gain there! :rawk:

That sounded effin GREAT. Nice chops too dude.

This may sound like a stupid question cause I'm a little out of the loop....what was the original amp.

Mark

Thanks a lot Mark :)

The original amp was a JMP 2203 from '78 I believe (Dan will know more than me!  ) It sounds like a whole different amp since Dan modded it - I couldn't play a JMP in stock form!

Sounds great! What mic's did you use?

Cheers :) I used a CAD Trion 7000 ribbon mic straight over the dust cap (ish!)

Great clip and some tidy playing!!

The tone there is awesome, how much do you put down to those speakers? The reason I ask is because Im still using V30s and the only thing thats holding me back from going down the lower wattage route, is whether the speaker remains tight enough - Im talking anything between old thrash and VH tones.

Anyway, thats all blah...how does your setup do for heavier tones..?

Thanks for posting up that clip Angus!! Excellent playing and tone, as always  :rawk: Can't wait to hear more of what you can get from the amp, once you get more time with it. There's a ton of different tones available in the amp as you know :)

Hey Dan!

Thanks mate :D I love the amp  Well, I tried to record the Cali again after the CADgate incident (my daughter blowing into it!  ) and I'm pretty sure its fried! I dunno what to do, I can either replace it with another or perhaps get it repaired. I suspect the cost of repair will go a long way towards a new one

Hmm........ Royer R121??

Speakers IMO make a big difference, I haven't tried the Cali with V30's but I would think it would still sound pretty good. Having said that I'm not a fan of V30s. The cab in the clip is a 70's Marshall loaded with Blackback G12M 75HZ speakers and it still sounds pretty tight. I gigged a couple of weeks ago with the same cab and it had plenty of low end and didn't flub at all- although I didn't have lots of gain dialed in. I 'm sure for old thrash and VH it would be fine since there's not lots of bass in those tones.

Hi Angus very nice sound. Dan has informed me that my super lead is all ready for collection so will be popping tohis this weekend to get mine back. Cant wait to play it and the turnaround was pretty quick too well done dan and mike you rock.
