Kirk has his own Style,you know its kirk playing(style),sound is a different story depending on the gear.If kirk played though a mesa on the black album and the switched to a different amp on another album its going to sound different,kirk STYLE will be there but the tone will be different.If kirk played though a mod 5 amp(made to achieve the early van halen tone)he would have the early van halen vibe.
 
Well, I won't debate this, no point.
I play shows with a symphony. Violinists I've sat and had drinks with agree the player makes the violin's tone sound great, you don't just buy the best violin and instantly have great tone. You can't simply separate the player from the tone and say it's all in the gear. I will never agree.

Nitro, Nitro, Nitro - look dude :D - if you wanna buy into the "every amp is tweaked personally and I change values and stuff to get it exactly like VHI and stuff" that is fine. It's a fantasy, but, knock yourself out.

As far as the "different" Mod 5 tones from different modders that you heard, well, I doubt you went through each one and checked every changed value to verify if indeed, it was that spec or not. There is gonna be some variance between amps, but in truth, take a dozen old Marshalls, put the actual spec in it and have someone with Mark's VH feel play through it and mix it with the proper reverb, etc., they are all gonna sound pretty much like VHI. So I'd take the $3500 on the amp you have, buy an old Marshall for $900 and get someone to put that spec in for a couple hundred... There is nothing magic about your amp...

As far as original Jose mods sounding different from Jose mods done by others... well, that is because most of the mods are different from Jose's original mods... Not hard to understand really, dude...

This is where we differ. I'm a bit of a "sentimental fool" so I'd hang onto the amp Mark modded, without a doubt.

Tell me about it!!! These are two awesome amps and instead of enjoying the outstanding comparison clips, some people have to get their undies in a wad debating which is the best ideal VH amp, etc. :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

Ive played through Eddie's actual Marshall more times than i can count. I always sounded like myself, which is a total hack.

Everything steve has said, is exactly on point. :thumbsup:

They're definitely both great amps. There's also nothing wrong with debat.

Not sure I've seen wadded up panties but I will say that I'm working in a hot shop today so mine are definitely a bit sweaty.
