Friedman.

Some love the QR, some hate. I would suggest playing one before you buy it. They have a very distinct thing that doesn't agree with some people's playing and sense of midrange. The Friedman is more universal imo.

You should consider a Baron B60. I sold my Quick Rod after getting this amp. All handwired, Turret construction, and the Footswitch controls every function on the amp. The clean is also outstanding if you play cleans. It is easily the best amp that I have owned to date.

 That Baron sounded absolutely killer! Wow! You kept adding more gain and the amp became tighter and more defined.Yet another amp for me to consider.

All will work. My two cents mesa mk III, IV or V. Bogner Ecstasy, Soldano SLO or any boosted Marshall. But all the amps you mentioned are solid choices

That is not my video, but that demo is of the amp that I own, and it really represents the dirty tones well. There is a normal/tight voicing switch above the presence and thump (resonance) controls that give you control of the tightness of the power amp. The OD channel has two gain selections, then there is a Wet (modern) / Dry (Vintage), boost, bright switch for both a/b gains. The footswitch has Channel switch, gain A or B, boost, FX, and wet/dry switches. You can control every function of the amp except for the bright switches from the footswitch. Also, Dave the builder has the best customer service ever. He will get back to you almost immediately after you send him a message. Here is a good demo of the Cleans.

I'd save my money and go with one of the jvm models. Tons of sounds and plenty of 80s hair.

I just found some nice mic clips on youtube:
What a great clips, thanks for sharing. But all the amps sound soo good...

Splawn...then use the money you saved on a new guitar. Dont fall for the overpriced, over hyped, and major disappointing.

The Friedman BE100 is the best amp Ive ever played(for me) and was worth every penny. No disappointment here

I have a KS Marshall and a Splawn Pro Stock (single channel QR) and my Atomica and CCV have better tone (to me) than either...my .02

But how far off are the splawn or the marshall that you own? Im sorry, but all things considered I have a hard time justifying paying 3-4k for an amp (which costs a builder maybe a quarter of that to build) that might be 5-10% "better" than something else. For 80s hard rock/metal, a Splawn cant be beat for the price.

I like the Splawn (or I wouldn't have bought it), but I find it a bit "stiff"...if you're a smoking player you'll make anything work for you/sound good...I'm not there yet. I listened to Dirty Craig's clips and videos on the Splawn site and damn if he doesn't make it look easy and sound AWESOME...but I have a friend who is one of those guys that can play well on any amp and he uses Marshalls with a TS808 re-issue and he played the Atomica and the Pro Stock and he said the Atomica was way better sounding (to him). In fact he wanted to borrow it right then and there. The Splawn didn't get that reaction from him. I'm NOT knocking Splawn at all, just play one before you buy. They can be unforgiving and a bit inconsistent. I had a QR that I bought used from a dealer that didn't sound right, I sent it back to Splawn and they said it was fine...when I got it back it still didn't sound as good as a friend of mines purple QR, so I sold it and bought a new Pro Stock (to do away with the complications of the clean channel) and it's better, but not as good as my friends purple QR (that was for sale on here not long ago). I played another QR at Matt's Music and it was good too, but not as good as the purple one, so YMMV. The Cameron's I've played sounded excellent. I want more.

I walked into GC a couple of weeks ago and plugged into a DSL 15 and was blown away by how good it sounded and it was on sale 50 bucks cheaper (450) than normal price. Chinese Marshall, who'd a thunk it ?

Duh...everybody knows purple sounds better. Just switch head cabs

I tried EVERYTHING with my QR. I ran the preamp from mine into the poweramp of his...same. I ran the preamp from his into the poweramp of mine...same. I used his Mojave 2x12 cab (greenback and Vox blue combo)...same. Just could not nail down what it was...I did think of the purple headshell though ! ;-)

Do you feel the same way about your guitars? The whole builder cost thing always makes me laugh also. Yea, it may cost them a quarter of that in parts to build but there's more to it than that. R&D of the product, labor etc etc
The beautiful thing about gear is no one's opinion of something matters when you've found the right piece. For you obviously Splawn, for chippy Camerons and me Friedman etc etc. I've owned close to 20 different amps in the last few years and each one within a day or 2 gas began to strike and I would begin searching again instead of playing. I have not stopped playing since I got my Friedman and haven't had the slightest though that I made the wrong decision. It's the amp for me.
OP, don't go by an Internet pole, go and try the amps out and whatever one gives an instant erection buy it lol

Not that easy to try Camerons, Rhodes, or Splawns...or many of the other boutique builders mentioned in this thread.

A great point. I dont have the cash to risk not liking an amp that costs me 4k and being stuck with it or or have to go through the pain to have to sell it. More power to ya if you can. But again, no amount of labor or r&d justify a 4-5k price tag. Sorry.
