So with tax money I may be able to swing something Ive wanted for a long time now. Either a Jose, or a Friedman mod. So what I want to know is can Dave's gain mod do the Jose thing as well as Cameron's? From what Ive heard I seem to like Marks Jose mod the best out of all the modded marshall tones, but I love the options on Dave's amps and want/need a clean channel. So what do you guys think?

Unless things have changed that I hadn't heard about, I think your chances of getting the amp done in a timely manner are MUCH greater with the Kitchen Sink. Does Cameron even do mods anymore?

No, but they come up for sale on here every once in awhile.

I think they both are very cool, but I would not leave a Fortin Cali mod off your list. I absolutley love mine. They basically come "stock" with several tone shaping switches and offer lots of possibilities.

Going rate for a Cameron mod seems to be right around $2,500.

I didn't see the clean channel part. It will be much harder to find a Cameron or Fortin with a clean channel (i've seen a few though). I'd go with a 100 watt Marshall and have Dave do his kitchen sink mod with all the optional (fat, saturation, etc) switches (this gets you extremely close to the Cameron Jose) and Dave can add a clean channel as well and get it done pretty quickly.

Had them side by side more than a few times. The Friedman with the SAT switch engaged in BE mode is almost dead nuts Cameron Jose. SOme of the Camerons have that tiny little bit more aggresive voicing which differentiates it a tad from the Friedman. I had my last Cameron High/Low gainer and I kept the Friedman KS because it had a bit more with the HBE and the C45. Both were great amps and I wish I still had the Cameron too. You can't go wrong either way but as was said above, better shot at one of Dave's if you are going to have it done.

Great info man! Thank you. I think as long as I can get in the ball park with the Kitchen sink I'll go with that. And you cant go wrong with all his mods in a 100 watt plexi, it's nuts. :D

Btw, whats the c45 mod?

No problem. I would describe the C45 as a smooth high cut with some extra sizzle. 100 watt Plexi with KS would make you very happy. make sure to get the SAT switch, Fat, and C45. I think some of them are addons to the KS.

I borrowed my friends Friedman modded Voodoo amp that had the BE, C45, JBE...Jerry Brown Eye, SAT, FAT. I liked it but it didn't have anywhere near the amount of saturation that a Cameron HG Jose or a Cali mod has. It also didn't sound anything like a Cameron, it was really smooth sounding. But how much of that tone is because of the Voodoo amp? That i don't know.

I've been told that if you want to have the HG Jose Cameron tone from a KS Friedman, that you absolutely need the Saturation knob and Fat switch.

I haven't heard a KS in person, but they sound great on Youtube.

It had the SAT and the FAT switch and I'm assuming the JBE might be close to a HBE, the tone and amount of gain was very different from a Cameron. If anything, the Friedman sounded more like a stock Marshall but with a better master volume for lower volumes.

The Fortin Cali mod is a lot more similiar to a Cameron than the Friedman that i played was. Again, with these modded amps i think were going to see some variations.

i own/owned 2 friedman ks modded amps,2 cameron jose hg modded amps AND have recently played a fortin cali marshall 100watter...each has it's own key high point.pound for pound, imo, the friedman kitchen sink mod is the overall winner,as with a brown eye,c45,hairy brown eye and saturation switch mode the amp is extremely versatile for anything from classic rock to thrash/speed metal.the friedman mod is the most organic and truest Marshall tone of the three that i've mentioned.the camerons & fortin sound a bit processed to my ear.dave friedman's turnaround time is pretty quick, maybe 4-6 weeks max...now i've got a cameron jose hg Sovtek Mig50 amp which is absolutely SMOKIN for that real aggressive 80's metal tone.this amp is EVERY bit as good-sounding as my old "holy grail"-dubbed cameron jose hg jmp,but for 1/3 of the price :D .i will agree that the cameron tone has an aggressive edge to the friedman tones, but i will also agree that the friedman SAT mode is right on the heels of a cameron jose.the cameron, imo,is more of a one-trick pony, and but it does that one thing WELL! if u want cameron gain & aggression, the fortin will be an excellent choice,as it's got a bit more gain than the last two,and it's much easier/quicker to get a mod done by mike fortin than cameron, who's really not doing them anymore.i will say that i prefer the greater mids content of a friedman or cameron over a fortin,though....it all really depends on what your playing style is,if u play out live or just a basement jammer, etc, etc for which amp modder's mod you prefer..........if you cranking the gain knob almost all the way up all the time you play,i'd say get a fortin, which has some more gain on tap,but if your more old school and enjoy the big cutting perfect upper mids, get a friedman ks amp....if you want the rippin mids marshall growler, find a cameron & be ready to shell out some bucks.the fortin will be cheaper as the friedman will be too..dont know about the JBE mode from dave friedman but i can say that the HBE mode with SAT switch on,has all the gain you'd ever need and there's nothing more a cameron or fortin can churn out,gainwise..anything more and it's not a modded Marshall tone anymore, imo,so you might as well buy a $600 Peavey 5150 head and pocket the other $1800 bucks   ....,,,,,,,,......anyways,ALL GREATS AMPS! lots o' choices...good luck ;)

you are correct! the friedman SATURATION mod is it's own circuit that operates on a diode-clipping principle, which is exactly what a cameron jose-hg or fortin cali mod circuit is based off of...thus YES you'd need the SAT switch to achieve that tone, level of gain,aggression,etc...the nice thing is that with the flick of a toggle switch(or a push-pull pot),you can turn ON or OFF this "mode" and not be stuck with it ON all the time....gives the amp that much more tonal flexibility/covers lots more ground

btw,the FAT switch has nothing to do with contributing towards cameron/fortin tone.it just fattens up the tone, really helps on thin single-coil strat-type axes & such...

My Friedman is awesome. You will not be at all unhappy. But whichever one you decide to go for, chances are good you will still want the others. It's called GAS. Where you are never completely satisfied unless you are waiting on gear, watching tracking info, or reading about what you do not have. :loco:
