Would it be possible to add the Cameron Mod to a pre-2004 XTC red channel? If so, what would the tone be like compared to the pre-2004 XTC? I was thinking of doing this, but I have only seen the mod for a post 2004 XTC.

Yes do a google search for Marvel Mod and you should find info. Post 2004 and cam mod has a decent bit more gain than pre 2004.

cam mod is in the middle gain wise, the post 2004 has a wee bit more gain than the cam mod.

Thanks!!! I should just ditch/sell the XTC and my Shiva and get the Cameron CCV!!!

Steve, what is up with the stupid Violin and the DISCLAIMER: I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT TONE, AMPS OR GUITARS

Jerome, thanks!!! I will look into this and try to find someone in the Chicago area that can do this mod for me.

No problem. I picked up a pre-2004 Ecstasy last year. First thing I did was take it to Schroeder Guitar Repair (1455 W. Hubbard, Chicago) to have it checked out. I actually went the route of "Make sure this thing is exactly how Bogner intended to ship it...stock/no mods, including tubes." I've gone to Schroeder for a few things. Aside from being really cool guys, their work was great. They custom build and modify amps, as well as repair guitars. They're right next door to Make'n'Music/Bass Club of Chicago.

Jerome, awesome. I talked to them 2 or so weeks ago about modding this amp for the Cameron mod. So it appears I contacted the correct company in Chicago to do this mod. So, how do you like your Bogner XTC. I have had mine for about 10 years and want something that is more open sounding on the red channel and was hoping the Cameorn mod would help a little. i was thinking of getting the Cameron CCV, but I really want to play through one before I even think of putting money down for one.

the cameron mod is just an upper mid gain boost
a very simple mod, similar to some gain stage of the Suhr OD100
it won't make a XTC sound like a CCV and definitely won't make it sound more open sounding, since the amp gets more saturated and processed

there are many possible mods to make it sound more open

Thanks, yeah I knew it would not make it sound like the CCV, but is it even worth modifying my XTC?

unless you just want more saturation, not in my opinion

if you want a little more openness, dynamics, clarity and faster picking response, an even easier and more effective mod would be bypassing the input resistor
works for most amps
if you weant to add gain, there are aso better mods than the cameron/post 2004, imo
tweaking the first two gain stages, instead of the third, usually keeps things clearer and the changes are more noticeable tonewise
I guess Bogner didn't do that in the post 2004 cause they didn't intend to change the XTC's darker side character
you could mod it to the Fish's spec

Eric, thanks. Is there any documents/information, etc that you can provide for the first two mods you mentioned. Where can I find the Fish specs and what are the tonal differences?

Eric, what is your take on the Cameron CCV? Is it worth investing in one of these? I am also interested in the Friedman Brown Eye.
