It sounds good don’t get me wrong. But not $16k good. More like $2300 good max.
I think I’d rather get a quad cortex, a valvulator to add some tube warmth, and go all digital if I wanted a rack preamp with that type of tone.

Anybody ever done a deep dive on the ocean mod? I know his Aldrich and Jose’s have been dissected, but not aware of that one….

Isn't Sonic Fidelity Group the "new" moniker for Sucker Free Gear, who I think is one of the surrogates who's muled gear for Mark before. No matter who he's screwed over and never made whole, there will always be people who have no misgivings about trading off his name,

I don't know any of the circuits well, but of the camerons i've played, the ocean and aldrich mods were far better sounding than the jose (which gets all the glory)
Aldrich sounds better for rhythm, Ocean sounds better for lead
Just my two cents

I know basic details about the ocean mod but won’t say anything since it seems he’s back in business.
The ocean mod was a special type of design that Aldrich himself named because he said the gain sounded like the ocean. Anytime I’ve heard a swirling flicker noise when not playing though, it has been a symptom of instability somewhere in the circuit and usually also accompanied by a bad preamp tube, but that’s a whole different topic.
I joined the forum to originally send not one but two Marshall’s to Mark to get his ocean mods. I’m glad I never did - as I was saving for his work right when everything bad was going down.
The preamp sounds great but it’s overpriced and probably gooped to hell and back, so good luck getting it repaired if it is.

If it's a later build it's probably not gooped, he was no longer doing that by the time of the later production stuff. The amp I have just has the component values blacked, there is no goop.
