Can a Mesa 20/20 get stage loud?

i need a 1 space rack power amp that can get stage loud for my Axe Fx ultra.. preferably tube..

saw the mesa 20/20 and it looks just like what i want but its only 20 watts per side.. Im going to be running each side stereo into a Port city 2x12 with v30 60watts..
 
It depends on your stage. If you have a good PA system then this should be enough, otherwise you will likely have difficulty keeping up with the drummer, especially when it comes to clean headroom.
 
Not sure.

However, make sure it does before you buy it.

NOTHING sucks more than a weak power amp and the inability to generate volume and power when it is required.

My philosophy: Go big, or go bigger. :rock:
 
Yes it is loud enough for a band. But, I would not use it to gig. Both the Mesa and Mashall 20 watt power amps can easily overheat due to a design flaw.

If I remember correctly, the Mesa 50/50's are pretty damn nice and have some power behind them. They can be had for pretty cheap as well.
 
I know you mentioned tube, but I have a Carvin DCM150 that I've been using with my Boss GT-10 and it has enough power for our shows.

I'm willing to part with it if you like.....
 
A 20/20 is fine for live. I have a 2:90, a 50/50, and a 20/20. They're all good for live. My 2:90 has never been over 11 o'clock and probably never will. Come to think of it, neither has my 50/50.
 
Are they real spongy feeling power amps? Spongy is not a good thing for what I play.
 
I have owned pretty much every type of power amp over the last 25 years and I am gonna just say it; Big bottle tubes rule.

Yes, I love the spongy EL84 sag for roots and certain textural styles, and the Vox AC30 is one of my all time fave amps, but big bottle (6L6/5881/EL34) tubes have SO much more bloom, presence, headroom and bottom that they are my only choice for live playing.

I gigged with a 20-20 for a couple years and trading to a 50-50 was like instant night and day better.
