Can a Recto sound like a Satan with pedals? Clips inside!

No.

Signed: Current Satan owner, and previous owner of over a dozen Rectos.

The transformers, power tube mix, and overall preamp voicing give the Satan a really unique tone. Similar... sure, but not really the same, and the Satan has a much much faster attack and way tighter bass response, even with all the pedals in the world.

Will the Fortin Grind pedal help? Definitely.

I think you can pretty much do that vibe on a Recto with a regular ole' OD pedal. Here's a quick iPhone clip in the room. Heading out the door, so it is what it is (a little brighter than intended), but it's dialed in to give that type of vibe or character. No EQs, just a Recto with an OD. Did some quick chugs on the last 20 seconds or so.

Yea I realize they are quite different. I guess I will have to put a satan on my amp wish list. What do you think pedal wise would get me the closest? I'm thinking an Eq in the loop. I don't have one to try so I would have to buy one.

Awesome clip and definitely better then the tone in mine but not really closer to the satan clip. The satan has that high mid range sizzle that is very special.

Well, two different amps will never sound the same... :) I just assumed we were speaking of the tight, controlled bottom with rolled off sub lows.

He asks if a pedal can get his amp closer to the Satan. You say "no" yet then end up at "yes".

Which is it?

Yes, can get much closer with the fortin grind pedal. It is for this type of shaping.

I was looking at that pedal but the clips to me don't make the kind of difference then the Od pedals I have.

Correct is is NOT an OD pedal. Non variable EQ and clean boost.

The Satan has this built into the front end of the amp.

I thought I was pretty clear. Maybe go back and reread my reply.

OP asks if it will get "pretty close": I respond No. Direct quotes.

I go on to say it will "help", but not IMHO as an owner of said amps get you "pretty close". Get it now? Is that clear enough for you?

BTW Have you owned a Satan or even played one?

Ok guys I'm on my way to GC with some money burning a whole in my pocket! What is the one item that will get me the closest to that tone, a fortin grind or an Eq pedal for the loop? Remember I have a few od pedals that I think sound close to the grind cant say for sure how close.

Hard to say... but an TS808 od and eq will give you more tone shaping options. If you can only do one pedal, the Grind would be the one.

Ok it was not clear what you meant at first.

The Natas is pretty different sounding than the Satan. The Natas is super tight no matter what. The Satan can be dialed in to be more forgiving. I like the Satan more.

Are either the Satan or Natas in any way close sounding to the Thrasher?

And can you dial them in to have good deep low-end, while retaining tightness, definition and open-ness? (Played a D-Moll this week; thick low-end in spades, but to my ears CH3 wasn't tight enough, plus it had some fuzzy saturation in the low-mids).
Sort of interested in the Thrasher, Satan and maybe an Egnater Armageddon or Vengeance.
