Can Tonex One be plug and play? Opinions welcome

I never really have had the chance to play a Tonex One but thinking it might be a good backup for gigs and an easy/cheap way to delve into modelling for gigs if i choose.

I have an Orange Dual Baby (and a backup) i run into an Orange 2x12. I have a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 200 I could run the Tonex One into.

I currently don't have a computer so any editing would not be possible. For gigs, I need one Tone for the whole show. I'm a Marshall/Orange guy and play punk-influenced rock music. Would i be able to buy a Tonex one and just plug in and get a great Marshall sound and be done?

I've looked at the Strymon and Tonex and others but really don't want to buy something I might not use.

Yes-ish. The stock tones aren't the best so you may look into buying the one with the brown sound tones loaded in. They power really comes from the software and the the user collections. If you aren't going to use it with a computer then its a tough sell vs a really good distortion pedal.

Some patches that sound good in the daw don't sound as good through a frfr or power amp + cab so I have a separate preset that I tweak on the computer for each (even if each one is the same amp model). So in your case the brown sound one may be the best bet until you get a computer.

Be sure to run it off an isolated power supply to avoid ground hum.

I would say yes. Buuuuuut…the Tonex site absolutely sucks and is hard to use. Once you figure it out, it is just fine…. Once you figure it out.

That said, there are many usable tones you can sift though and download to your device. I bought the Axe IO and make some of my own tone captures from my Marshall super lead.

There is a stock IK 5150 called Proud Eddie that is good. Also some decent user upload Soldano and VHT offerings, which are my leanings. But there are 1000s of uploads to choose from.

For the cost of entry, I think it is definitely worth a shot.

My dream is to show up to a gig with just one tiny Tonex One pedal.

I would say no. You really need to find captures you like and load it onto the pedal through the computer.

The A+ move is to make captures of your actual amps with your actual settings, so that way you get a pocket sized version of your tone.
