I dunno man, I picked up the EB and it just felt right. But it was the same feeling w/ the Carvin to an extent. If you're looking at that price level already I would also recoment checking out Rusty Cooley's Signature. Im not normally a Dean fan but this thing is F'N crazy.

Here he'll tell you

Mo,

The Carvin guits are pretty killer for the dosh - there's no question about it. Fully spec'd to your tastes and everything, it's the best bet for value as far as sevens in the under $1,500 range go. The EBMM is killer as well... the necks are to die for and the pickups/bridge are excellent quality. However the necks are thinner and it's got more of a shredder's vibe, ya dig? I sold my two JP6s because I couldn't gel with the thin necks.

That being said, the JP necks ARE thicker than what Ibanez calls "necks" on some of their axes... some of those Wizard necks feel like they were made for elves or fairies. They play great... but after a while that neck gets to me... especially on a seven. The JP is thicker than THAT at least... but I'd still give Carvin consideration too. I believe they have a decent return policy too, plus again, custom specs. What's not to like?

Agreed - having my say in the tone woods, the specs, the 'everything', I can't see how I'd go wrong. I'd pitch the pups upon arrival, slap in a set of BKPs and be done with it

This might be my end of 2011 project :D

Peace,
Mojo

That would work pretty well I think. The wait time isn't too bad on them either, plus I think Carvin has some sort of discount dealio going on (at least it did when I spec'd out a 6er tonight, the cart showed a $100 discount)... great prices slashed lower!

Just out of curiosity, what would your specs be? I always like to talk tech.

I'm going to have to think about this and get back to you... I'll let you know - neck length, radius, woods, frets, etc. Lemme put it together and I'll tell you all the details

Mo

The resale sux on Carvin, so why not find a used one cheap cheap and give it a test drive? I had a Carvin that played beautifully but sounded bright...should have changed the pickups before dumping it

Id get the Carvin. My cousin owned a custom 7, and I built a 7 string using one of their premade necks. They play incredibly well. Seriously, my favorite necks Ive played. Badass guitars. Sound great too, depending on your pups of course. I used duncan blackouts in mine.
