i am curious to see what your opinion is of them. i have been contemplating ordering one of there ct series guitars, and have heard good things about them except for the resale. if i ordered one custom spec'd for me i wouldnt plan on selling though, so i didnt pay much attention to that part.

ya im selling a lp right now so whenever i get the money im hopefully going to get an st300m thats builts to my specs but ya just wanted to know some more info on the quality and such

I have a DC200, DC400, and CT4. Love them all. Plan on getting a SC soon.
I love the necks on the DC's, the CT is a little thicker but still very good.

Never played one, but I would guess it's the same as the DC.

IMO, the quality is very high for what you pay....better quality than most guitars under $1K. As most will tell ya, the one thing you'll probably want to change are the p/u's. I bought a custom C66 (bolt-on) and didn't care for the p/u's, so I switch them for the DiMarzio Crunch Lab/Liquifire combo. I love everything about the guitar now, except for it's 1.69" neck width, which is something you can't have changed anyways. (I'm a 1 5/8 neck fan) Even then, it's not that big of a deal. I also have a CT3 (all mahogany), but I bought it straight off the shelf at their online store. It's quality is very good for the price as well. Oddly enough, I like the way their p/u's sounded in it, so I never bothered changing them.

That is 0.075 difference... can you honestly tell me you can feel a difference that much?

As for the OP, I have owned three Carvin's, one of them being a seven string, and have played a few more than that. I personally never played one I did not like. I will say one thing I did not like on ANY of them, with the exception of the seven's active mode, are the pickups. If you want any useable tones, they will need to be swapped immediately.

A few months ago, I asked a Carvin sales rep for their neck dimensions and this is what he gave me.

Uh.......yeah. Most players can tell you rather they prefer a 1 5/8 width to a 1 11/16 width. While the difference is subtle, I can definitely identify the difference and therefore have a preference between the two. Some players do have trouble telling the difference, and I suppose you'd fall into that category.

Well, to illustrate how big a difference this is. Set your action so that your high E is 1/16" at the 12th fret. Play that for a bit. Then set your action so that it's 1/8" at the 12th fret, and tell me you can't tell the difference.

I have a Carvin TL60, and it is a great guitar! The pickups are not bad, but I would, and did change them. I got mine used and it was setup with their stock pickup route. I had it routed for a single coil in the middle, loaded it up with a Rio Grande set, and it's REALLY killer! Nice straty tones, but out of a much better guitar!

As insignificant as it may look numerically, its a very noticable difference once its in your hand.

i was planning on putting EMGs in anyways just my go-to pickup
im kinda thinking about trying some BKPs soon tho, heard lots of good things about em

the carvin's that i've had have been good to above average build quality (which, for the price is hard to beat) but had shit electronics.

The one big drawback to Carvin is their resale value isn't worth crap.

Id have no problems ordering from them again, but if I did I would make sure that I had EXACTLY everything I wanted on it the first time

well if i have one custom built to my specs i wouldnt really plan on selling it

If you get the St 300 i strongly recommend using the Mahogany or Koa neck so you'll have fatter wider bandwidth tones to feed to whatever pickups you use.

In other words on neck through- avoid Maple neck - cause it will sound like an all Maple guitar- bright thin.

The 14 radius on Carvin's fingerboards are great IMO and Carvin has great Jescar Frets great fretwork.

If you want fatness , suggest also a fixed bridge as opposed to a trem.

i was planning on a walnut body w/quilt maple top with a 5 piece walnut/maple neck and a TOM bridge w/ EMGs

Amazing guitars (aside from the pups) for the money! The quality is there.
