Anyone have/played one of these??? I have heard some awsome sounding clips and you can find them pretty cheap. Might make for a good knock around rig? Any thoughts ?

they are great amps for the money. I had one long ago, used it for 4 years, never had a problem. You can find them dirt cheap now

I have one from the late 80s. It is the last vinyl one before the tolex. I even have the original 6L6 chassis that they covered with
EL34 stickers. I have been playing it off and on for over twenty years. I am the original owner. This amp sounds great. To my taste, it sounds better than amps that cost 5 times more. This thing gets a really nice dirty tone and some pretty good cleans that do not break up at loud volumes. The reverb is excellent. The graphic eq and power setting switch 25, 50, 0r 100w. Carvin was doing it over twenty years ago. I even have an original diamond grill cab from the 80s. I got it from e-bay for $150.00, but tht speakers were torn.
I have tried the new X100Bs, but they are not the same. For the price new or old, you cannot go wrong.

Put a BBPreamp in front of it and it sounds great!!

The BB Preamp costs almost as much as the amp does... I think I bought mine for $250....

i've got an early x 60 b with 6l6's that i got a really good deal on. as others have mentioned.. it's got a great clean channel.. sort of fenderish.. but a bit brighter. it's hard to get the clean channel to breakup even when you crank it. i've found the best thing to do is to run the od channel with the +20db boost pulled and use the graphic in that channel. it also has a switchable series loop that takes pedals or rack gear and doesn't suck tone and the reverb is pretty decent too. throw some pedals in the front of it and in the loop and it takes them well.
there isn't much not to like for what you pay for one these days.

the one thing i've found is that you need a really quite tube for v-2. that's the od channel. one half of v-1 runs the high gain input.. the other half the low gain input. you can plug into both jacks at the same time.. but if you do it defeats the +6 db gain of the high gain input.
on v-2.. one half runs the od.. the other half the +20 db boost. put a noisy tube in v-2 and pull the boost and you'll know about it right away. reverb and loop are ic's. v-3 is the phase inverter. another nice thing about them is that the traces on the old ones are "old school". nice and thick and heavy. hope that helps.
