So is this really a thing.......If it is what should I do...... I figure maybe cut some cardboard, press it down and use it in between the strings and frets :dunno:

Have had a San Dimas in it's case for sometime no real issues I can see really.....

Should I worry about my other guitars like LPs or S types in their cases or is it just whatever?

Some guitars come with a plastic sheet to put between the strings and frets. If I don't have one of those, I put a few pieces of packing paper between the strings and frets.

If the guitar is going to consistently be stored in the case for a while, I would definitely put something between the strings and frets.

And fwiw for the love of God when you ship guitars: please put some paper or something between the strings and the frets. That guitar is going to be manhandled and the strings otherwise smashed into the frets.

This is the answer.....

if you are just storing it, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are keeping them face down. Sideways, vertical, etc..., anything other than laying upside down or vertical against the face. You don't want the guitar weight pushing against the strings.

Not with any decent case.

Yeah, it's a thing, but it almost never happens unless the case is complete shit.

If the case (any normal case from one of the big brands) gets hit that hard, a dent in your fret is going to be the least of your worries, especially with a Gibson/set neck

Yeah somebody on here showed a LP that arrived with the case intact but the headstock was broke. It could have been shipped that way (fraud) but it appeared it happened inside the case.

The guitar should be snug inside the case, if it can flop around in there then there should be some extra padding placed inside to prevent that. Lots of cases come with small pads just for that.

feels like a TGP topic...

can't hurt, but I have so many guitars that even with lots of use I don't expect to ever need a refret on any in my lifetime, so it's not a concern at the top of my list.

I think if you play the guitar a lot you'd have more fret wear than a guitar sitting in it's case, stationary, for an extended period of time.

It doesn't hurt put in on guitar when You store them but for me is a must when bring guitar to rig or rehearsal. I had few guitar which arrival with dent in fretboard and make it annoying as fuck. It was Suhr guitar with stainless frets and GG case and it is pain in the ass. Easier to put 10€ to little plastic than 200€ for fret polishing.

This appears to affect only certain guitars.

Mine are made of metal, their circuits gleam, they are perpetual, they keep the country clean.

Of all of the many guitars I've seen over the years that have had fret wear, none were even across all the strings and all the neck. It always tends to be certain strings in certain spots that correlate to playing. If you are worried about your frets wearing out when your guitar sits on it's case, wait until you see what happens when you actually play the fucking thing!

I say wear your frets out properly and don't worry about it when it's in the case.

It's not necessarily going to wear just sitting in the case. But the metal to metal contact can cause corrosion, and a significant joint can press the strings in to cause a dent.

If it comes in and out often and you don't drop it etc, then sure, not really a thing to worry about. But it's easy insurance to just keep something between the strings and frets.

Or if you have them stacked up on top of one another too I imagine.

You see Slash and his collection...... when the fuck did you ever see him have any of those plastic things in the case with the guitars.....

Maybe it's just like internet myth BS stuff..... :dunno:

Watch a couple Norm's Rare Guitars videos. He has a room full of stacked cases, with insanely valuable guitars.
