Best one so far. Damn that sounds good both with high gain rhythm and with leads. Damn. Damn damn.

High gain rhythm sounds loose and fuzzy... Exactly what I didnt like about the Slo when I had one here. Sorry , flame suit on.

Granted these are alnico speakers , wouldnt be the choice for most when playing tight modern rhythm. Sounded nice to me on clean and crunch

OUTSTANDING!!!!! IMO Greatest amp ever. Just sounds great!! The lead with FX at the end is just velvety smooth yet nasty!!!! Nice job!

I like the gain structure of the overdrive channel. ;)

Wow. I thought that was a great Tone. Very velvety and smooth

Sick. Especially the lead tone. What is you use to do the am radio tone? Pretty fuckin cool.

Of the amps you have used with these speakers, is there any that you preferred as the SLO sounds the best to me

Agreed! Those of you who have a chance to play an SLO, if you see one used do it! And turn it up a bit..... Edit: ONE of the greatest amps ever! My Wizard is definitely at the top with a few others....

Both the SLO and the Wizard are top notch. I think the Alnico Creams sound best with the SLO of the amps demoed. I've been using Lynchbacks with my SLO. They sound killer.

I noticed that the Pres knob is all the way down. Just a suggestion, but to tame the lead ch's zing, you could take out the treble bypass cap on the lead ch's gain pot. Basically a permanent Haynes Mod. I did it to mine and it helped quite a bit to bring down the chirp.

Does the mod you're talking about work no matter what the gain setting is? It's my understanding that the Haynes mod is only noticeable when the gain is set to 4 or below.

The best answer I can give is "it depends", to my ears anyway. Volume and speaker choice play a big part. Where the power tubes are biased play a smaller but noticeable part. I usually don't run the lead channel's gain above 6-ish, but the master is up (5-7), the speakers are moving, and the bias is set a tad higher than factory. The bright switch on the clean/crunch channel does the same thing as the Haynes mod; ie. eliminates the treble bypass cap on the gain pot. It all just boils down to preference. YMMV.

No need for presence control on this amp, it's got so much high end on tap with just the treble knob.
Besides the presence knob does nothing till it's turned over halfway anyway.

I have turned the treble down to 9 and compensated with the presence before.
I always ran mine the opposite..I maxed the presence, and turned treble to 0. Adjust up as needed. I fact I do that with every amp. Gives my ears the most bite if you will. Through G12 65s sounded killer.

Mine came with the Haynes mod and it may lessen a bit as the gain is turned up but it is still noticeable in the attack of the notes at higher gain settings IMO.

I really got these speakers FOR the SLO, it's a bright amp and I wanted to tame the highs, mission accomplished.

Yes, I love your wizard demos, but with these speakers it's a great match with the SLO

Do you use the thorpy like a normal boost pedal level up and gain down? I have always read on here that you love it. My impression was it was more like a distortion pedal.

Didn't really care for it.... until you turned the gain down (around the 6:30 mark). IMO that really eliminated the fizziness and brought much improved clarity. Not sure if that was a product of just the amp settings or if the speaker characteristics were coming through. Either way, from that point on, I enjoyed.
