I know a lot of you dig a quad of those older Celestion G12-65s. I'm curious if anyone likes them in 1x12 cabs. I've got one of the "vintage" Avatar 1x12 cabs and there's a G12-65 on eBay that I'm tempted to throw in there.

I have two Marshall 4x12 slanted cabs both with G12 65 the speakers are the originals from 1980 and I have two Marshall 1912 cabs which are 1x12 cabs and I loaded both the 1x12 cabs with G12 65 from 1980 .
for comparison Both the 4x12 Marshall cabs sound great with all my amps which are all Marshall flavoured .Cameron Jose HG, Dan Gower HG/LG jose,Marshall plexi CAA Golub/Suhr SE lead mod the aldrich version and a Bone stock JMP Marshall 2203 but.... the 1x12 just do not sound right with any of those amps and I am sure it is to do with the actual 1x12 cab and not the speakers. it does not matter how much I try to redial the amps when using the 1x12 they just do not sound great , I use the 1x12 for a wet signal and that works just fine but my amps sound like shite when running through the 1x12 . not sure what amp you would be using but if it is Marshall based I would not recommend the Marshall 1912 / 1x12. perhaps avatar 1x12 cabs you mention would do a little better but the marshall one is pants.
If you are thinking of buying a G12 65 then it might be an idea to check a couple of things with the seller if possible before buying as there are different versions of the G12 65
First check the date codes. to be absolutely sure of getting a good speaker I would not recommend buying G12 65 that are dated much past late 1982 as celestion by that time had started to use different cones and some are good and some terrible also check the cone codes with buyer if possible as there are two basic types one code will be 444 the other will be 1777 . you do not want to buy the 444 cones they are awful just total shite . unfortunately the cone codes are quite often printed on the cone in black which can be immpossible to read so in that case you will need to trust the speaker frame codes. the 1777 type cone will have a speaker frame T code that reads T3054 if you can get one that dates early enough then they tend be consistently good.
I have one in a 1x12 combo cab for a '82 Marshall 4010. I also have a '81 1960A with a quad of them. The 1x12 sounds pretty good, I think. It's not the 4x12 by a mile, but I think the combo sounds pretty good with just it's own speaker.
The Marshall 1x12 1912 is made of MDF which is probably a lot to do with it sounding so shite. the 1912 cab was not definitely not marshalls finest hour..
