I recently acquired a Laney cab that was at some point rewired with the guts from what I believe 2 ADA 212 Split stack cabs. 3 of the speakers say Celestion G12M-70 and one says Celestion G12 Modern Lead 70. One of the G12M-70's has a blown voice coil, i want to get another one, but I'm not very familiar with Celestion's products. What speaker would be the closest to the ones in this cab, and what is the general going rate for one? For some reason my computer won't let me through to many websites and unfortunately the celestion site is one of them.

I had a set of these and sorry to say they were the worst sounding out of all the Celestion's I've tried. :scared: You can find these on ebay once in a while for about $25-30. I bought 4 for $100.

I bought an early carvin cab from the early 80s. It had three of them speakers. I put two in a 2x12 and it was crap. The speakers were very dark. I would go something else.

Mike Soldano says these are the worst speakers ever made by Celestion.

Kill them with fire. Do it.

I had these in highschool. Never was happy with my tone.

I don't know if they are the worst celestion has made, but they they are the worst celestion I have heard. Had a full stack of them.

They sound so bad that even the anti Chinese Celestion zeolots would rather use Chinese speakers than the UK made G12M-70s.

The G12M-70 is also named the Modern Lead 70, so you have all 4 of the same speakers.

They are my least favorite celestion by far. They sound distant and have poor presence.

As far as replacements, the Celestion Classic Lead 80 is a nice neutral sounding speaker for celestion, they are very nice and work with alot of different amps. My other suggestion would be the G12T-75, those were stock in a lot of Marshall 412 cabs and have more of a mid scoupe. There is also the very common Vintage30, which has a mid spike and is kind of a crunchy sounding speaker, particularly compared to the Classic Lead 80. Any of these speakers would be an upgrade over the G12M-70 and all will have similar power handling. I haven't played a Peavey Triple XXX, but hopefully someone will chime in on what speakers they had good luck with that amp....

I would think V30's would be a good choice for the XXX and it so happens that I have 8 for sale if you need any. PM me.

I will definitely keep that in mind, thanks. How much would you be willing to sell 2 of em for?
Huh, so no one likes this certain Celestion. So far I kinda dig em' but only time will tell. Either way, I got the cab for free so, oh well, haha.

I can do a pair for $160 shipped. They're all 16 ohm.

Put a pair of Vintage 30's in an X pattern with a pair of G12K-100 and don't look back. If you want great prices call Dave at Avatar Speakers and ask him for a quad price. Mine were 379 shipped. He buys them by the 3,000 count and noone can touch his prices.
