Celestion Lynchback vs Weber Legacy comparison clip

I had a few minutes so I threw this together. My full humbucker guitars are at my practice space so I had to use my Telecaster with a Little 59' in the bridge

Low volume plugged right into the Ceriatone with slight delay in loop. I can't guarantee the mic placement was exact on both clips but I "eyeballed" it as close as possible. I did not touch the amp settings and no post-EQ.

The Lynchback is brand new out of box and the Weber Legacy has been pounded pretty hard.

The answer is BOTH. They both sound great and would be even better together mixed.
 
I liked the Lynchback better...tighter, thicker, more punch and crispness. :rock:
 
I'm digging both speakers very much in your clips. They're actually more similar than i would have thought. Thanks!
 
they are similar ,the Weber's have a lil more chime on the top .I like them and thats what my 212 is loaded with.
they are great speakers with Rectos ,Baron ,Elmwoods
 
Nice to hear the 40 oz Legacy. I have the 30 oz, and I didn't realize the 40 oz would sound significantly smoother. (I think for what I got the Legacy for, I prefer the 30 oz, but I didn't really figure that until now.)

Can you do a similar clip with the Invader? I'm curious how it'd sound comparatively (with your setup etc.), since my opinion of it is different than yours.

My Invader is actually on eBay right now so I don't want to go through the trouble of loading it back in a cab. I never tried recording the Invader, but it is much brighter/harsher than both these speakers "in the room". The Invader is 16ohm and both of these are 8ohm......so maybe that has something to do with the discrepancy between our ears. I decided to pair the LB and 40oz Weber in a 2x12. I ordered another LB to pair with my 30oz Weber in a different 2x12. I'll report back and make some better clips once I get everything together. I really wasn't able to open up the volume on these clips since it I did them at home.

All the speakers I own are 16 ohm, so I only know the Invader vs. Legacy (and other speakers) at that impedance. Although, I've heard other speakers in 8 ohm and 16 ohm versions but never noticed a significant difference in the way you mentioned. How you describe the Invader, sounds like how I might describe the ET65 (or Liberator, although those are a lot easier for me to keep sounding "smooth" by comparison to the ET65). It's hard for me to consider the Invader bright/harsh compared to any guitar speaker I've used, and I've heard them in several cabinets (comparing to other speakers in cabs of the same design, over at a speaker cab manufacturer's shop, before I bought some for one of my cabs). I wonder if WGS mislabeled your speakers. :) It's also possible we're just using such different setups that we are focusing on different aspects of the sound, describing it a bit differently or something.
 
Way more clarity and cut with the Lynchback, perfect for my amps. That Weber would be a mud fest with myh Bogner or PWE or Mesa...
Weber = dull to my ears
Lynchback = tight, thick, punch and crispness
 
The made in America Weber sounded awful.

The Chinese Celestion sounded great.

I laugh at people who buy gear on certain principles, not tone related.
 
I have a weber..sounds pretty good to me! I also have chinese greenbacks... a little fizzy but i like them too!
 
I think they both sound great actually. The Lynchback definitely has more cut though, and is probably a better choice for really high gain tones. The Weber definitely had more of that vintage, 70's "woodiness" to its tonality.

Exactly, but I am not a metal player...so I may end up selling the Lynchbacks and doing Greenbacks or Creambacks in my Splawn 412.

I think the Lynch sounded best for what you were playing, the Weber probably shines in other areas, cant have enough speakers/cabs around. BTW Teles rock!!!!!! :rock:
 
Damn man - 130 a piece for a speaker made in china??? Wtf is wrong with celestion?lol....just lost my interest in the lynchback lol

Who cares where it's made if it sounds good. iMHO the Chinese V30 sounds better than the Egnlish v30
