I am thinking of buying one of the new offerings after taking a break from strings. I have a So-cal from a few years back great guitar. Any opinions on the new ones? I like the new selector switch and tone controls.

i have one(that i'm currently selling because of kids) that i love. it plays and sounds great.

fit and finish is great... playability is effortless

I have one just like Mystix, pretty killer guitar for the money no doubt.

I'm curious too, I like the specs of these new ones (volume knob out of the way, tone knob, truss rod access), but I'm still leery of MIM quality to order online, it's always hit or miss. I like the So Cal's because they always seem a bit heavier and more substantial, and I prefer non-direct mount pickups. Just wish the Floyd models had some rosewood fretboard options.

My last MIM was the San Dimas with HS config and hardtail, it sucked, it was like a toy.

I've had a couple, including both of the Warren Demartinis, and I think they're fine guitars. Probably better than most mass-produced brands outside of the US, and even some IN the US. Try if you can - the biggest complaint is always fret ends, but I have had $3K custom shop Charvels that have had sharp fret ends - a common issue with oil finished necks. They expand and shrink - hell, even finished necks have this happen. Good overall hardware and pickup choices, and easy to upgrade if you think you need to. I've played probably over 20 of them, and only has one I'd consider a dog.

For what it’s worth, I received 4 of these from Musicians Friend over the course of a month and a half. I kept on having to send them back because each one had an issue or two. I finally ended getting one from CMC Guitars out of NJ and they hit a home run with it. They did a full set up and took care of any sharp frets. The guitar I ended up with is fantastic.

I got a purple quilt model a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. No sharp fret ends and super smooth neck. Quality overall is very good, especially for the price. Seems to be just a little better quality than the two older MIM models I have. Also have a DeMartini snakeskin MIM and the build quality on it is very good as well. Def wouldn't hesitate to pick up another MIM model.
