Got a San Dimas Charvel and thought it had a jb in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. Turns out it has a pair of 59's  Did they come like this?

Also, the bridge 59 is flipped. Why would someone do this? I havent played through an amp yet but I already know that I will not like a 59 in the bridge

anyone want to trade another pup for a Duncan 59?

i assume you're talking about one of the newer charvels from the USA production model series? if so, no they did not come with 59s in the bridge and did not come with them backwards, that's for sure. they came with a jb/59 set as you said or dimarzios in the so-cal version. no idea why someone would do that. either some tonal reason or they just didn't know how to properly install a pickup.

Hey, If you are using Splawn amps...I just took the JB in my Charvel out and put in a RioGrande BBQ and it smokes  Voiced really well with the Splawn amps.....

SOunds like you had an idiot doing a pup change bro.
I guess so. I flipped it back around without a whole lot of difference tonally. It sounds too freakin' thin sounding and I need to put something else in there. I sold the JB I had because I hated it's nasally character. Im thinking of an Afwayu or an Aldrich

what do you think? My Axis sounds big and beefy...Im not too concerned with 'tightness'...I play with a bit of a looser sound, I just want it to sound fat

I have an SD Distortion loaded in one of my so-cals, love it. Beefy but not too hot so seperation is there string wise.

Go Aldrich all the way!

No way! Repectfully my mail delivering brother. Afwayu all the way! Aldrich was dark boomy poop in my Les Paul.

And my San Dimas was a JB for sure.

Dang it! I always get more confused when I start askig about pickup changes

I know we all suck. Bottom line is so much depends on what you have and what you like. I think you just have to try them and see. It is torture! I love the Afwayu, so large sounding and responsive but I have seen others hate it. I guess that goes for anything.

didnt you try the afwayu also Dan?
Yup.....had the Afwayu as well.
Another really good one is the new Motorcity Jerry Cantrell Pickup.
I played that one when Mike brang up his les paul.
That pickup sounded GREAT!!

Tell me more of this Charvel Pro Mod+ Afwayu combination... I have a JB in my So Cal, but I also run 250k pots with it. I don't care for the sound of alder+ maple + JB + 500k, too shrill. That combo with 250k's has always been a favorite of mine, though. I've had a Tone Zone (stock and an older unit) Dimarzio Super Distortion, and an Evo2 in it, I keep coming back to the JB. Tried the others with both 500k and 250k pots. I'm not afraid to solder. :D

I have a Tone Zone that I pulled out of my SoCal (replaced with a JB) that I can deal with you on. I need to find it first but if you get out to my side of town, I will hook you up.

Anything you are looking to trade right now? I am looking to move a VTM60 also. I need to pick up some type of amp that I can turn on and off just to noodle here and there without burning up tubes.

Id take a tone zone over this Duncan 59. You want to trade?

Also, I noticed that I barely have any pull up on the floyd...and when I dive and bury the strings the floyd block sits too deep in the cavity and the springs rub making a horrible noise. If I lower the floyd posts anymore I get major fret buzz

You back to work yet? Id love to bring this thing up and compare it to your So Cal

Raise the posts a tad and stuff some snot rags or foam in the cavity and bring the heat bro. You will get at least 3 steps pull.

I shake my so-cal from the bar like laying the law to a puppy holding it from the scruff and no noise.

I would trade the TZ for the 59. I really have no need for it but I could always swap out the Dimarzio neck pickup that is still in the SoCal to almost bring it up to the San Dimas specs. I will look for it tomorrow (moved over the summer and am not sure where it is) and will let you know.

No, I am not working yet. I kind of took the summer off. Let me know when you have some free time and I can bring the SoCal and TZ down to you and then you can rock it through your rig. Time is on my side.
