No worries guys...thanks for all your input! That's what's great about this forum..a wealth of knowledge available by asking a question. That's what started me here a few years ago. I had my doubts that it was a real USA Pro Mod just by the thickness of the neck. But its a very nice neck and I now know why! Even though she's a mutt, I think I'll keep her!
No, they did not have separate shops - it was the same guys. Some of the early bolt-on pointys with Jackson logos could have been Charvel pointys, but got Jackson logos because Grover was phasing out the USA Charvel brand to a large degree. However, the Charvel stratheads have a specific construction with a skunk stripe on back and a different heel shape than the neck shown. They are of similar quality, just constructed slightly differently and it is easy to tell.
I've played 3 Charvel Customs, owned one, and played 6 or so USA Pro Mods from the 2008 reissue period. All of those had a different feel and were thinner than this Jackson. I like it but it's not as shred-able as those Charvels or my Hamer Diablo. On the other hand I've had some Jap Jacksons and they were all REALLY thin necks. Haven't played a Jackson USA though, till now.
