Looking for a cheapish amp for death metal. In vein of autopsy and obituary.
Thanks ?

Friend of mine swears by an old solid state RG75 Randall combo. Cheap and super brutal.

How cheap ? .... 5150s can be had relatively cheap. Some of the older randall stuff comes to mind also.

The crate gx130c is the easiest way to that “Tampa” tone. Sounds just like cannibals “the bleeding” without any boost or anything else needed

From what I've owned...lowest cost to highest:

Marshall 8100 valvestate (MXR 10 band in the loop and a boost, it's a death metal/thrash machine) $200-$300
Ampeg VH140c (Same as above) $300-$600
6505, 6505+ $500-$900
Something like a Peavey vypyr isn't too bad either if you want really cheap.

The first two aren't near as available as the Peavey's, but do pop up from time to time. With persistence/patience, I found a dead mint VH140c and a decent condition 8100 when I was on the hunt.

not happening anymore my man, you are lucky to find one in good shape for $800 now. the SS140 you can find in that range which could probably work

I grabbed one back in Jan 2019 in dead mint/like new condition for $600. Just have to look outside the over inflated Reverb market. Craigslist and post WTB ads here and in other forums where people don't have to jack their prices up to offset Reverb's fees.

this dude does a good job comparing some old classics. i need to get on the ball myself and start making vids like this

Pref head .watts no matter budget I would say 400-500 tops . The valve state was my 1st amp, might pick up another one . I was looking at older Randall and crate stuff as well .

Line6 flextone head and a cheap boost or an eq in front of it. I picked one up cheap($175), and its crazy good. Keeps up with my recto, or close enough...

Old Fender M-80 Stereo Chorus or Ultimate Chorus head with an overdrive pedal. Should be able to get the head for around $200, and its 2 X65 watts, with a good clean and a great chorus effect. OD is one trick pony, but you can always throw a pedal at it.

the fender metalhead is the fender for metal, mine is a beast. that was my gigging amp in my last project. criminally underrated amps

Ended up pullin the trigger on a Randall v2 the demos sounded killer online we will see when it gets here ?
