So a good client of mine is sending me his Ed Roman Korina EVH Shark replica on trade.

This is a replica of Eddie Van Halen's famous SHARK GUITAR that was featured with on the Women and Children First album cover.

Ordered with every possible upgrade and built by Ed Roman before his passing.

The guitar is made from PREMIUM KORINA instead of alder or ash like other lesser models. It has tone pros hardware, an ebony fretboard, and most importantly, constructed using a NECK THRU body design.

This build feature results in a tonal quality far and above what those who have ended up with after cutting up an old Ibanez Destroyer as Eddie did. The guitar also had some additional post build upgrades to ensure it was a clone of Eddie's, including the correct sized and style turn buckles and top hat knob.

This guitar comes with an issue of Classic Rock with Eddie holding his version of the guitar on it, as well as an outtake promo picture of the album cover. It is relic'd by way of the custom shop, with little play on it.

Serial: 10279

My customer paid $5500 for this a few years back. How cool is this...

:rawk: I wonder if it plays as nice as it looks. That into an EVH 100 stack oughta smoke

You should give that to me - just saying my "handle" is calling for it. :D

Exactly...based off of an Korina Ibanez Destroyer just like the original was made from. Cool!

I think the original was Japanese ash. but yeah, korina=better!

See, I don't really associate that guitar with EVH, so it's just a custom piece to me, one I'd pass on for $5k. If I wanted a guitar like that I'd get a Killer Akira.

Equipped with the body cut out that essentially ruined the tone of the guitar too!

Ed didn't record with the guitar again after cutting that chunk out behind the bridge - he said the guitar sounded like shit from then on.

I have to laugh that I just saw this as the top thread.... AS I'm listening to "Women and Children First".... ;)

Ed did use that guitar on Van halen II and Women and children first, all the songs without trem.

Nope, Ed never recorded with his Destroyer again after he hacked it up sometime in 1979. He realised he'd ruined it.

The non-trem tracks on W&CF were recorded with a different Destroyer belonging to Chris Holmes of WASP. Ed wanted a guitar that sounded close to his own before he hacked it up, so he borrowed Holmes's.

Nope,I have the list of guitars from Rudy Leiran(Edwards first guitar tech) the shark destroyer was used on van halen II(all non trem songs) and also women and children first, the chris holmes destroyer was only used for three songs on women and children first which was romeo delight, loss of control and In a simple rhyme,a 12 string rickenbacker was also used on In a simple rhyme.

Wait, so Ed was or was not forthright about how he got his tone on the early albums? This is very cornfusing.
