I know this was probably already posted a ways back, or maybe it was someone else covering it but I think this version kicks all kinds of ass. Satriani gets a great raw tone on it. I'm actually not a big fan of his but he just nails this. I dig how he adjust some of the guitar voicings to try and get the feel of the organ in there. Love the way Hagar and MA work the intro scream.

This is probably the first time he got a tone I liked. Usually it's just not raw or bright enough but his JSX's sound great here.

Nice, although I have to say that I prefer the Hughes / Vai cover more - also with Chad Smith on drums!

Wonder who covered it first...?

hughes versions are always awesome, this one, and many others in his solo bands and I think BCC.

Fuck me... Listen to Sammy and Mikey killin' it on the vox...

Everything was great, Joe, of course....

I believe he actually uses the clean channel and his Satchurator distortion pedal.

Easily the best current rock guitarist on the planet. I loved this. Everything about it.

Would disagree by a long shot.. there are a ton of better guys. That is not the point though as it is all subjective. I would say he is a fantastic player with great phrasing though and all these guys together just sound great.

As for the tone, I would call it the farthest thing from raw but it is Joe's tone and that's cool. He always sounds like he is running though distortion pedals and with a compressor squishing the tone to me.

Joe is awesome. In 1993 he finished the Deep Purple tour after Blackmore quit mid-tour. Joe smoked thru their whole set like it was easy. IMO he totally killed in Deep Purple moreso than Steve Morse.

Killer cover! I've really never seen a BAD performance by Sammy or Mike, they are true professionals.

Playing Blackmore without a Strat= not as good! A Strat neck pickup would still rip right through the mix, unlike a Dimarzio hum bucker - IMHO.

That makes sense. I havent heard a sound like that out of a JSX before.

I know right...frickin spot on! Even my 17 year old said man thats a great tune!

Easy, don't even have to think about this one. Ritchie Kotzen for one ...All day long and he isn't all gained out here either:

sounds even more on live:

and there are tons of other guys too. Doesn't take anything away from Joe but it is what it is..

this reminds me more of Deep Purple and the Ritchie B vibe without direct lift....also does not have ridiculous levels of distortion, just a gibson with pickups and a marshall. The Joe version is cool but I would have liked it with a more period level tone.
