If after playing one I found that I couldn't really tell much difference that mattered to me between say a real Les Paul & a Chinese knockoff except for maybe pickups, I would buy the knockoff no problem.

It would also have to look spot on to what the real deal looks like including headstock shape, decal etc....

Is a much better quality Gil Yaron Les Paul for $10,000 any less of a douchebag buy just because it's not a cheap Chinese knock off.........the Yaron is a total Gibson Les Paul copyright infringement knock off as well.....he just writes GilYaron on the headstock in the Gibson font........what's the difference in morals here? Gibson is still being totally infringed upon.....

The Yaron is a phenomenal guitar, that while is TECHNICALLY infringing on Gibson's trademarked body shape, is not ever going to be mistaken or passed off for a Gibson- because it doesn't have the same headstock and logo as a Gibson. It is a replica for all the right reasons- the fucking TONE and playability and correct 50's specs. Made for people who give a shit about and can recognize such things, and are obsessed with them. Once again, no one will ever be duped or fooled or conned by these guitars. They are made for one reason- to recreate in exacting detail what we love about 50's Les Pauls, and can't get to our satisfaction from any other modern instrument.

The Chinese knock off is meant to buy you cred- with others and yourself- to fool people or even fool yourself into thinking that you have a "Gibson", and that you should feel good about the fact that you got a "Gibson" for $500 or whatever. It's made for ALL the wrong reasons. Buying one means you are into labels and image above quality or tone. Seriously, think about it... try one if you can, don't take my word for it- They suck, period. They don't even look close to real either, which is the irony. I've seen and played some, and they are a joke. If you order one thinking you are going to get some awesome satisfactory experience for cheap, you will be sorely disappointed.

If you can still say you would be, well then maybe you should move to China too....

How did the seller got to that price?
A 5K guitar is also not a good price.

I am not cheap but i had the pleasure to play an American standard (probably1K) against a 4k Fender Custom shop and it was impressive how the american standard sounded better to all in the room.

I think it is a matter of luck at this point.

I have two great guitars, a Les Paul and a Strat (believe me, this is the one) but for the sakes of it, i would never pay 5k, let alone 10k for a piece of wood.

I am sorry, it is a stupidity and only people who will bever gig would buy the 10k guitar, mostly guys who want to show off.

Yeah everyone knows the guy you are quoting Pete Thorn has never gigged in his life, all those shows as Chris Cornell's guitarist, playing in Jewel's band, all the gigging with Melissa Etheridge, Don Henley and all the others I'm probably missing was just a figment of his imagination That and I'm willing to bet you know nothing nor have any experience with Gil Yaron's guitars (me neither) to be able to post such bold claims!
I do believe luck indeed does play into how good a guitar sounds whether is cheap or expensive.

Person Y copies product B to sell to the public at a more expensive price.

Where smart leaves the picture is when people distinguish the two by justifying one and condemning the other.

However, which of your two scenarios carries more potential to harm an eventual end user?

I have a very tough time getting my panties in a wad over someone knowingly paying 10k+ for a guitar that's a knock off of a '59LP. Let's not forget, it's not an exact copy; it doesn't say Gibson on the headstock, and no one is going to pass one off as a vintage LP.

On the other hand, the idea of someone selling the knock off Suhrs to some kid who doesn't know any better (for ONLY $1500), is far more likely, and troubling.

Listen, I agree that both are wrong in spirit, but to completely disregard the motives of the two buyers, is silly; one (most likely) buys in an attempt to profit through deceit, the other wants a guitar they feel is unavailable (currently) elsewhere.

Just so you know, Pete has probably forgotten about more gigs than most of us will ever play in our lifetimes, and while he is certainly more than capable of showing off in any style he chooses, I've never seen him do it on any of dozens of vids he's put out. Never seen him talk smack or blow smoke either.

Some of these would beat the real deal in recorded clips, just like some Epiphones have been chosen over R9 Gibson clips recorded by the same player with same amp.

I would love to try a couple of the best Chinese Suhr knockoffs against the real $4,000 ones just for shits & giggles.

For $400 you can't go wrong, imo.

I've always wanted a Goldtop, but Gibson prices & quality control are ridiculous. For $340, I think I'll take the plunge for kicks.
