Pete Thorn is a class act. He has a wealth of experience in just about every aspect of playing, performing, writing and recording music and he's been willing to share all of that information with us, and he's done it willingly in order to either help us become better at what we do, or what piece of gear to spend our hard earned money on. He used to post on the old HC until idiots drove him away and I would personally hate to see that happen here. There are very few people with credentials like his that make themselves as accessible as he does. If that makes me a "Pete Thorn nut sucker", then so be it.
Yep

I call you BULLSHIT!!!!

So happy Mr. Thorn that you can buy whatever you want. Great resume you have there. Could not give a shit less. All you Thorn Nuts suckers feel free to flame away. I bought one of these Chinese knock offs and played the entire show with it. See link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Xv2CGRzZw

Curiosity got the best of me so I bought one. Did a setup and WALLA!!! Great playing guitar. If a man or woman cant make the guitar then it falls on them. Congrats Mr. Thorn on your accolades and I wish you all the best.

I'm guessing from the condition of this "post", you were under the influence when you attempted to communicate. Maybe you type with a hoof? And great job ripping a pro who, besides being a world class musician, only gives and gives to the members of this forum.

The logo and headstock are dead giveaways. Plus the top is shit.
Most of the real $3k+ Suhr's don't have mind blowing tops either... Just sayin'...

You couldn't be more wrong.

Wrong, he is indeed. As others have already stated, this thread has showcased a vulgar display of ignorance! :bleh:
I forgot this forum is a Suhr fan-boi station. Nothing bad can be said about them without it being wrong or ignorant. A lot of them are nice, but not anywhere close to mind-blowing. If you think they are 10/10 on an awesome scale, you really need to look around. Of course it's all subject to opinion.

I was going to say something similar but decided not to. However since you have I'll say I concur and I've never played one that blew my mind.. especially tonally. Like you said it's all subjective.

This statement is wrong. I understand it's your opinion and that I disagree. But it's also wrong. You're saying that not 1 Suhr in the history of mankind, is "mind-blowing". I might be a "fan-boi" but at least I don't spout bullshit about quality builders.

That's fine. Ultimately though, it's a response to the original post which is about Chinese fakes. Pointless.

He was referring to the tops on the $3000+ Suhr guitars not playablility or tone?

My guess is it was made by a place called Rare Electric Guitars. They make 100% rip offs of just about every high end brand and sell for about $500.00. They use Wilkinson bridges so I bet this was made by them.
A guy on the J/C forums bought a rip off Zakk Wydle LP from them and said it was a great guitar besides needing a PU swap. I've thought of buying a Jackosn Robin Crosby Firebird from them.

Tops. Since I commented that the top on the Chinese top was shitty.

The Chinese knock-offs are wrong and unethical in every way.

Yaron is a master builder, if I had crazy money I might one.

I would love to purchase a Suhr or Tom Anderson.

Sometimes, luck is a factor in finding a great Guitar. I have a couple of Norlin era Les Pauls that are just amazing. I also have a made in Mexico Strat, I bought it new in 2004 after comparing everyone they had at guiatr center. This particular one sounded great with out being plugged in and felt great. The nut needed a little work, the frets needed to be cleaned up. I changed all the pickups, electronics, and the bridge. The guitar is wonderful and probably have a $1,000 invested in it.

I hear many complaints and a few positive comments about newer Gibson electrics. I must say, I picked up a 2011 Gibson SG Standard a few months that was advertised for $900 used. I did not care for the 490/498 pickups, but the guitar was well made and felt great. I put in better electronics and a pair of SD Seth Lovers and now it is one of my favorite guitars. It also actually stays in tune very well after lubing the nut and all friction points. I think used SG's are a great deal.

Someone that knows how to read and understood what I was talking about! :worship:

Sooooo, Yaron building a Les Paul copy is fine since he's a master builder & the Chinese selling a Les Paul knock off is wrong since it's junk?

If you take ethics into account, aren't both wrong?

Like I said $10,000 buys a shit ton of forum cred.

What in the blue f#ck is this shit???

BTW... I did watch the video. Nothing really of note there for me musically, but I dig your bass player. If I'm gonna watch pedestrian rock then at least it's nice to have something cute to look at. Had it not been for her presence... I wouldn't have been able to make it as far as I did.

A lot of the guys that I've seen who buy and use these guitars are PROS. Seriously... WHO gives a shit about people who give a shit about forum cred??? That's more TGP than RT. ;)

Amen to all of these. Pete's been a class act all along and it amazes me that he still posts on internet forums. His videos have been responsible for more than a few of my gear purchases. I wish he'd sell his fingers to go along with them though!

Until recently, I went out of my way to avoid diving into the whole boutique superstrat thing... partially because they were the darlings of gear forums. I buy what I buy and play what I play because I like it, nothing more. But I recently bought my first Tom Anderson (Drop Top Classic) and holy hell that guitar is AWESOME. I've owned dozens of Fenders over the years and nothing I've ever seen from them comes even close. I did have a Suhr in my possession a few years ago that didn't knock my socks off from a players perspective (it seemed very "stiff" to me). But I'm sure they build as awesome guitars as Anderson does as well. My mind has been blown by my Anderson and no doubt would be by some Suhrs.

As for Gibson... I really love my 2001 LP Standard, but it took me playing a lot of LPs over the years to get that special one. So far I've seen MUCH more consistency with small builders than Gibson or Fender. Which is of course, part of what you're paying for. I salute that quest for excellence! Here's to CHOICE and EXCELLENCE in guitars no matter what is printed/inlaid on the headstock!!!

Btw... chinese FORGERIES are a different beast than well-made CLONES. Not the same in intent, not the same in quality, not the same in amount of direct impact on the producer of the original.

Not that you commented at all toward me, but I want to state here that dfrattaroli took what I said completely out of context. I commented on their tops only and never in any way was referencing the quality or tone of the guitars.

As with everything in life, some things are hit or miss. It is just the nature of the beast.
