I'm looking at speaker options for my Soldano 4x12, to use with my SLO100.
Here's what I've tried:

1. Four Eminence X12000's - too smooth, I want more texture and 'rip' in the sound
2. Two Vintage 30's on the bottom and two Eminence X12000's on top - good, but still too smooth
3. Four G12H-30's - great, but I want some more of that V30 grind and 'rip' in there

Here's what I'm considering:

4. V30's on the bottom and Greenbacks on top - Works for Friedman
5. V30's and Creamback 65's in an X - ???
6. V30's and UK G12-75's in an X? - I had this in an old Marshall cab with a '78 JMP 2203 and it was killer. VERY in your face sound
7. V30's and G12H-30's in an X - again, a great sound, very full and good for rock.

What are your recommendations?
We play heavy progressive alternative rock. Lots of heavy rhythms, open chords and inversions and lots of delay lead stuff.

My experience with mixing speakers is at first the cab seems to have depth and range. But what you really hear is the dominant speaker over powering the weaker. So when you mic the weaker, it sounds like crap.YMMV.

2 V30s + 2 M25s Greenbacks... also sounds killer with 4 M25s too.

Yeah I run my SLO through a V30 / Greenback cab too. Sounds good to me

4xG12 65s. Game over.

Wasn't much of a fan of V30s with any of the 3 SLOs. They're ok.

As dark as SLO is Id go Ubercab setup so the gt-75 add a little high end zing.

I think G12 65's would be a great choice. I am running WGS ET 65's with my HR25 and they work great, but may be a touch too smooth for the OP. The G12 65's should have more bite.

I really want to try some fanes with my HR25 at some point, no idea how they would match. The Avatar Fane M65 would probably be what I would go with.

This is another good option. My SLO sounds amazing thru my UberKab as well.

2 RI Greenbacks on top/2 V30 (I’d go with old ones or the ones Mesa makes) on bottom is raw rock n roll. Also liked Creamback H75s and Lynchbacks with my SLO.

Also, never heard the SLO described as dark. That’s a new one.

Haha agreed. I can't dial any of my Marshalls to be as bright as an SLO.

Comparative to a Marshall topology it is dark. I see I may have overstated a bit. The SLO design dumps off lots of high frequency harmonics through the filtering. One of the unique parts of the design. Its mostly high mids up there crunching. I am not saying an SLO can't cut or be bright however. Im saying it has far more l distortion happening in the high mids then in the actual highs.

With darker amps i like speakers that go up to 7k, with brighter amps I prefer the typical v30 5k. I think mixing in the gt-75 will balance that zing a bit.

All I know is this..my 79 2203, with the presence and treble maxed through G12 65s is bright but tolerable. Same settings, guitar, cab with the last SLO I had..no chance I could deal with that. WAY WAY WAY to much high end for my ears to take. And I love bright and cutting.

I prefer greenbacks over V30s for the SLO. However, I've yet to try the Eminence speakers they use in the Soldano cabs.

How loud are you running the amp? I've gone through numerous speaker configurations over the past 10 years with my SLO and the level that it's being operated at needs to be considered when making your decision.

This for me too. But sometimes it seems that greenback crunch and the SLO saturation are almost too much when I turn the gain up. I usually don't have it above 11:30 so usually not an issue. I've never tried G12H30's with the SLO but 'on paper' it seems like it might sound good. I agree with the G12-65.

If there are no mods then the SLO lead channel can be bright when the gain is low and not bright when the gain is high due to the bright cap across the gain control. I put a 3-way bright switch on mine (clone) for that reason because I run the gain relatively low.

I liked the SLO with my buddy’s cab that has Marshall V30’s a lot. Straight up cutting metal tone. Much better than the Chinese I’ve tried. If I had to pick a favorite speaker for the SLO, it’d be RI Greenbacks. Although I’m liking the H75s a lot.

I really want to try the 2 M25s + 2 H75s in a 4X12 with my SLO... judging from feedback so far, they should rock.

The question came up about volume - we're frigging loud.
Always been a very loud band.
Given that frequencies are pushed at volume I'm leaning towards a V30 and G12-65 mix.
I love Greenbacks, but I think I'll need more clean headroom out of the speakers. I need clarity and room to move in those higher frequencies and while the Greenback compression is great for some amps and styles, I think I'll skip them on this one.
I do have an old Marshall cab that I'm keen to fill with Greenbacks for a more old school flavour.
