I never understood the 80's tones that used chorus on distortion rhythms, I only liked chorus on clean tones (if at all) so I tried to mess around with it today through a Triple Rectifier.

Signal chain was very simple, guitar into a Maxon OD-9 (boost) and a 1st generation Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble with analog circuitry. An Alesis Picoverb in the effects loop was used to add some reverb to the tone.

Please forgive the playing here there is a hiccup or two.

That was fucking GREAT !!!!

great tone and great riffage !!!

riiiiight up my alley !!!

and i dont mean my alley like that !! :emofag: :grim:

You got any more clips like that?

oddly enough i was playing with chorus in my distortion today. i would like to say though that your tone and playing is levels above me. i think you did a fantastic job.

Sounds great Tom!!! Personally, Ive always loved Chorused dirty rhythms whether it comes from a Chorus pedal or via detune effect. Done right, It makes things sound huge..

Here's a super-chorusy dirty rhythm tone. Ibanez AD202 chorus effect in the loop of a modded Marshall, boosted with a Furman parametric EQ.

And one of my faves- Randy Rhoads with Ozzy Osbourne live, performing Black Sabbath's Children of the Grave.

How's this for fully chorused out- yet doesn't sound 80s at all. Only from the last 10 years or so.

studio (1999?)

(live-mid 2000s?)

that was cool.

i like the idea of chorus on distorted tones more than actually using it live. ce-2 for subtle, eh small clone for nirvana wobble are two i've used in the past but it's hard to make it translate, from what you hear to what you want the mics/house to hear.

i enjoy randy/zakk heavy sounds, where the tone becomes more massive and a little honky, but i believe it only works when the guitar sound is the showcase of the overall band sound and dominates the mix. and at that point it is such an aggressive sound i can't use it for my live situation at church, where i need to make room for 5 vocalists, a grand piano, synth, B3, acoustic guitar, etc..
didn't much care for eddie/luke bradshaw distorted chorus although i bet it sounded great standing in front of the rig.

andy summers/mike landau shimmer clean or medium grit chorus is where i live for chorus tones.
