Classic guitar ads from the 80s

That "no shoes" Viv Campell standing on a rock...who talked you into that man? Ahahah. That Rudy Sarzo Peavy Bass looks badass.

If it didn't make me sound old, I'd admit to remembering all of those. Some great guitars in there... Didn't have my favorite ad, though. I loved the B.C. Rich ad for the Virgin. ;)

Thanks for posting that!

I have a ton of old 80’s guitar magazines. My oldest go back to 1985. I remember buying one from Sept 1985. Still have it too. All of the guitar gods were still kids.

Wish I still had all my old ones. I got my first guitar in '85 and had every guitar magazine I could get my hands on. Downsized about 13 years ago... oops... oh, well... so it goes.

I wish I had that old mag that had the Steve Vai "24 hour workout" or whatever it was. I remember just learning a lot from that. Obviously I did not do that entire insane workout but some of the phrasing and riffs, I did learn and it was cool.

That Kirk Hammett ESP ad, I have that actual guitar at my house. Funny thing is it had a Jackson style headstock so they had to edit the ad for the US Market so you can't see it, it happened right when ESP put out there new headstock design.

Yeah, I see this in my immediate future, too... Glad I found it!

Whats the story behind this?

Kirk gave that guitar to his friend Karl, Karl sold it to me. That's as simple as I can put it.

Always wanted that Washburn "explorer type" guitar that Cavazo endorsed.

I could be wrong, but I think the barefoot guy playing the Vivian Campbell guitar is probably a model.

Here is a rare one.

The most important Ad wasn´t shown, indeed a view into
the future. Who would have thought that the extinction of
the "Metal Musician" came true?

Oh man, the one with Steve Vai in those silver cowboy boots and that lawn chair LOL

I used to have a set of lawn chairs like that. Never really cared for bright neon craze for guitars but what a fun time right?

I'm going to have to dig to see what mags I still have. They are in storage and I'm not sure on their condition at this point. I was actually thinking of making a thread on it so this thread here reminded me of that.

Rock on,

You don’t see many hard tails there

I find it somewhat ironic that I started playing 1984 and I don’t like whammy bars....at all :bleh:

But then, I did start because of Hetfield, so there is that.
