Personally I think it should go Randy, Jake, Holmes, Zakk. To be honest I like a lot of the songs from Zakk's era better but his style...it wears on me more than the others.

Ozzy's music is not classic rock.

It is now. The 80's is now considered classic to the young folks where people my age considered the late 60's/70's stuff classic rock. It is just a name and the Classic Rock Magazine covers all types of rock music that is considered older music.

   I would take Skolnick over most of them except Randy, but he should not even be considered in this mix since is tenure was only one show. Vai too!! Too bad Holmes didn't record any studio stuff with Ozzy.

You do realize Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, etc are seeping into the "classic rock" stations now... Anyone feel old yet?

Of course Randy is #1, as he should be... Had anyone else taken the job Osbourne would have been that one singer in Black Sabbath before Dio came in... Just like there were 100 singers after Dio no one except the hardest of the core remember or even name, hell I think Eddie Trunk is the only one who can do it, and that's including Toni, Geezer and Bill!

I didn't know Skolnick was in Ozzy's band. Why'd he get the boot so fast? Also, Steve Vai is an amazing guitarist, but he does/did not fit with Ozzy's music. I felt the same way when he played with Whitesnake. Slip of the Tongue was a big disappointment for me.

and when he played with Alcatraz.... not even close to Malmsteen. I did however rather like his work with Whitesnake. I didn't think it was THAT bad of a fit for him. He has a unique style which unfortunately fits his own music best. Wasn't bad with David Lee Roth either but then Becker comes along and blows away his work on a Lil Ain't enough.

Skolnick I also never knew about! I listened to that live clip and thought he did amazing? I mean he could have listened to more live Randy because rythmically he played Mr. Crowley more like the album version which isn't as good in my opinion but the lead tone was way closer to Randy than Gillis and even Holmes were. His lead playing was also light years ahead. Maybe they thought he didn't have enough personality? I liked what I heard in that clip though, vibrato was good too.

Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the majority of SOTT, but it was so different than the 1987 album. Vai's playing was killer, but the whole album lacked the balls, coolness, and sexiness :D of the '87 album. It probably doesn't help either that Sykes's tone on the '87 album is my all-time favorite high gain tone.

Love Ozzy, I rank them in the same order they came, all original, all top of the heap and all very unique, I think it would have been nice if Ozzy could have found someone as talented as Zakk and moved on for more diversity I think thats what made his music so cool and fresh was all the different guitar slingers, kinda got stale after "No More Tears" I think that was Zakks crowning achievement with the Ozzy, would have been nice to hear another "unknown" out of the wood work shred monster take it from there.

I agree with the list.

IMO Zakk's contribution was huge to Ozzy's career. But he definetly lost a lot of points in the last years or since he became the character he is now.

No More Tears is a killer album, so is No rest for the wicked.

it makes me puke everytime ozzy says "i cant believe they-(meaning-his-audience)-still want to hear this stuff",..this time.he was refering to the song "NO MORE TEARS".......(that ZAKK completely wrote)...and ironicly,..he said the exact same thing about "HERO" the hidden final track on NO REST FOR THE WICKED,...that only appeared on the casset? or was it the album??.....and how long ago was that????? well good god they still had LP's & cassettes!!!!,...maybe even 8-TRACKS!!!!!.......had to of been at the very least 20 something years ago.......(and another urban myth about"HERO''...it was at the exact same time ozzy was finishing up NO REST..... that GEEZER left SABBATH.... and joined OZZY..........hmmmmmmm maybe the ole sly,..sneeker GEEZER,....came with a song!!,..or an idea for a song?????...conspiracy!!!....and being a die hard BLACK SABBATH & early OZZY fan,..these are the only 2 songs that kicked ass since BLIZZARD/DIARY well,..... looking back,..i "guess" ya gotta put a couple of JAKES work's in there..............but at the time anything after RHANDY pretty much sucked,...ya might get a song or two that were ok???...but nothing like before,...

it's like ozzy has turned his back on his audience,...i know when he was touring for the blizzard of oz tour,...he said in an interview how much he hated the last 5 BLACK SABBATH albums.....
-TECHNICAL ECSTASY-(very underated album)
-NEVER SAY DIE-(very underated as well,...if your not familar with them,...YOU-TUBE!)
-SABBOTAGE- (ozzy said he "BROKE" his voice on this album,..if your not familar with this condition ask ROGER WATERS,..and,,,ahhh,...who was that chick that sang THE SOUND OF MUSIC???,,,anyways)
-SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH-
-VOL. 4-

I guess you can technically add Bonamassa to that list too since this is him on this track, not Cantrell....

and Jake is still the best. :D

Randy was the only one to matter to me--I hardly listen to the others that played with Oz

Yngwie is my favorite Ozzy guitarist.
I've got a live concert somewhere with them together.
He killed it.

Had come across the No more Tears CD after a long time...Played it all week.
Really good stuff on it. Randy is still my favorite with Ozzy....but that CD is one of favorites from Ozzy.
Great tunes and great playing.
