Magnetic components/classic tone is going out of business in November. For the homebrew folks and up to Soldano amps and a few other big names this really sucks.

Yep, Scott Splawn told me this the other day when inquiring about a new amp.

Crazy stuff and huge bummer, they were the most reasonably priced for the quality of their stuff.

Word has it that many of EVH's Marshall's were refitted with Classic Tone iron. :D

RIP Classic Tone. :salute:

Bummer, I have a Wizard clone with their iron, really good stuff.

That sucks... another USA made quality product gone... I wonder why they are packing it in? They have been around a long time. I guess Heyboer and Mercury Magnetics will pick up the slack but it still does suck, I have been quite happy with their products over the years.

Where does Chris Merren get his transformers manufactured?

Chris makes his own.

I was trying to do a build a few month ago and alot of common parts were back ordered due to COVID. Maybe people haveent been able to source parts for builds.

I called Tubedepot yesterday and they confirmed they are shutting down. They still have stock so I ordered 6 transformers.

Less market competition usually equates to higher prices.
If you thought transformers were expensive before, buckle-up.

Why are they going out of business? Not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but business for companies like Warmoth and Musikraft has been at an all time high because of Covid. I would figure a transformer company for home brew amp enthusiasts might be doing quite well right now. Perhaps volume and lack of gigs has curtailed the amp business? Or maybe modelers have undercut business as well?

I placed an order last weekend and got it today so all must still be well

Wonder if Scott will go back to Heyboer? Did he say?

Wonder who is going to make Mesa’s transformers now, as they have had classic tone for a while now.

Dig my classic tone iron I put in my homebrew 2204. I would suspect issues with supply chain and thus falling behind in supply for the demand that might be out pacing them. This pandemic is nowhere close to being finished. It's just getting started on the economy now.
