Today's youth has no interest in playing electric guitar. What was once a thriving pop culture driven industry has been reduced to mere subculture of aging hobbyists. Most of us are approaching the age where the TV remote is the most sought-after device in the house. I was talking to a guy this weekend who wants to sell me a Rockman Smart Gate for cheap. I shared my perspective, and he totally agreed. I was going to buy the Smart Gate, but thought... WTF do I need that for? Pass!

If you're holding onto a large cache of gear, you might want to consider liquidating while you can still get something for it. Select Gibson guitars, Marshall, VOX and Fender tweed amplifiers are worth holding onto, as they are perfect for home decoration. There will always be a demand for vintage pre-hair metal era gear.

The future of the LP guitar...

Lemme guess. This is bait just for me right?
Who are you? :scared:

I don't know why some of you are so upset about the youth and other people relating to the popularity of the electric guitar and don't just enjoy it yourself.

I have plenty of tube amps, and probably over 200 tubes that are either new current production or NOS. I will have enough to last my lifetime and I don't care if the youth does what I do or likes what I like.

I have done what I do and always have and always well.

I just don't see the point... But yet again douchefuck Krill is in on this bullshit and it's not like he plays anyways.

Also dynamics change. Fender has had a record year through covid even. Yeah there are not as many 100 watt tube heads being gigged and DMFX has evolved very far and fast in the last decade.

Also as far as the popularity of forums, it's a morgue. But there is a TON of it on Facebook and Instagram etc. People just aren't coming here as much.

This is pretty much it. Times change. Instagram is loaded with guitar content. Facebook has a ton of guitar related groups.

Plus, a lot of the demographic that this place caters to is largely outdated. People aren't playing 100 watt amps to play to a dinner crowd at a restaurant. And nobody gives a shit about people 40+ playing their originals.

Play for your own enjoyment, and don't worry about the peripheral shit.

Even a lot of the "pros" are gigging Kempers or digital units on the floor because it is way quicker to set up and get your sound through the PA. If not digital, than two amps into a few Torpedos and modest pedal boards. It is only us nerds that want to recreate massive 80's racks or old school tone chased sounds through our living room setups. We also all play mostly sitting down now because that's super cool and rock n roll!! Forums are still reasonably active but you can only talk about the same stuff so many times. That's why none of us use the search function and ask the same questions over again. Hey. can any of you recommend a good boost pedal for my XYZ amp???!!!!!

Guitar sales have been increasing every year. I personally know A LOT of youngsters into guitar, and bands. The difference is they don't spend time on guitar forums talking about $5k amps like us old dudes do. They spend more time playing with what they can afford (or what their parents will buy them).

We're on this forum because we're older, gig less, and are more financially stable. Just the opposite of the youth.

Also rock is alive underground, it's only dead in the mainstream because of the crash, and restructure of the music industry.

.

Exactly. Although most of you likely have kids my age (I am 30).I was a active musician for a damn long time. Teens and twenties. Had my fun. I don't care to join a cover band tbh and I like to do what I do. Play and hoard and enjoy. I would rather spend my time enjoying and playing than going through band bullshit with rehearsals and drama and put $100 on my pocket on a Friday night. I am different from a lot of the current generation in most every aspect tbh.

I enjoy my gear. I work on my gear and have fun. Fortunately I am taken care of from a financial standpoint and I have the time to do other things. Right now I am in the end of my second year in lurhiery apprenticeship. I have immense passion for working on instruments as well as playing them.

I see the real benefits of Kemper, AX, etc, but it's not just me.

My Instagram is popping with a lot of great guitar guys, players and techs and I spend way more time on there than here. At this point I generally know what gear I need and have, as generally most of us kind of know.

There isn't a lot to talk about on here, and IG is loaded with gear pron FFS, fun to see, but I also like coming here every day for the familiar faces and enjoy it.

I have always been underground, and that's fine with me. I will play my music with my big ass tube amps and 4x12's till the cows come home, and not worry about current trends.

yeah the gear forums are filled. Most of my guitar friends dont do forums at all. Just not as appealing I guess. Ive made a ton of friends lately through facebook gear groups then they find out how old I am and are like "damn you are old". There are a lot of younger kids out there doing great things and youtube for better or for worse is making it more accessible. There are just as many shredders today as there were in the 80's Im willing to bet there are more. It's the actual music industry that isn't thriving as it once was due to streaming and the over abundance of options out there.

"down to one amp(not by choice)
Mesa Mark IV"

Been there, done that, good choice!

Michael Schenker built his entire carreer on 1 x wah pedal, 2 x guitars and 2 x 50 watt Marshall stacks. He didn't add a 3rd guitar until 1986.

I have figured out that with the Mark IV I really just need a hot rodded Marshall type amp then I have all my favorite tones.

That's where I'm at. Between the Quick Rod and the Rectoverb I can kill most GAS if I just turn them up and play them in stereo

Good news boys. I Got ampparts direct to stock a Heyboer 100w marshall PT with 15v tap

This is the email I received
I ordered 10 to start. If they sell I will wind more. It’s a modification of our APD-8024H with a 2” stack. I am going to label it APD-2024H.
I’ll let you know when they come in.

Yes, that is great news
Thanks for doing that.
For all the love I have for ClassicTone iron, I was never crazy about their 100watt project PT.

Same here.

Heyboer makes some great Transformers, they exclusively make the Metroamp C1998 Plexi clone output transformers and made all his power transformer clones as well. It's just sad to see a good USA product go the way of the Dodo.

Around 2008-9 I had issues with their standard Marshall SL/Plexi power transformers running hot and with one I had massive bias drift and it wasn't the tubes, I replaced it with another that ran cooler but still too hot for my liking, they always said it was normal temps but all my Metro heyboers power x-formers run cool.

In this 69 build I purchased their 40-18053 M6 Lamination Power transformer designed to run cool and it did with no heat issues or reliability issues.

I already had a custom wound PT made with Heyboer. http://www.slocloneforums.com/viewtopic ... 39&t=15503

I sent that info to them, they got in contact with heyboer, and added something comparable to their line.

You can spec out a Transformer to heyboer, and they will build what you want.
