So what's everyone's preferred pricing etiquette?

I was just posting the price net to me (cash). But then I saw someone post the Cash price and the PayPal and Shipped price (example below). I kind of like that. Shows you, hey if you want to pay cash and local pick up... here is the price. If you want buyer-protection and for me to ship, I already did the math, here it is. Buyer's choice if they want the discounted price or white globe service.

Example:
$3000 with no fee payment.
$3300 PayPal'd and Shipped.

Posting just the net to me price confuses some people.

Posting just the Paypal and Shipped, might scare away a someone willing to pay cash for hundreds less.

If posting net price confuses someone I don’t want to bother doing business with them. Payment methods can vary by preference and as can shipping costs.

I’ve posted shipped costs in the past and shit doesn’t move here anymore anyway. Anytime I’ve sold something it’s because I put it on reverb.

I have been shipping everything with a bonus bag of cocaine inside of it. My items are selling faster and faster on here now

I'm not picky as long as its pretty clear. It seems some people don't like 'Net to me' but I think that one is even more clear than 'Shipped and PPd". What if I'm local and will pick it up with cash? Net to me covers that situation but Shipped and PPd doesn't.

That's what I've seen, some people don't like net to me, think you won't take Paypal at all and just won't even make and offer. Or they try to negotiate price and then ask for free shipping and paypal, like its Amazon and it only cost $10 to ship.

If someone wants to negotiate free shipping, that's one thing. But they need to realize it could be a big discount to them (cut to your net take home).

Then you message the guy and say what the local pick up price is. Most will reduce by what they would have to absorb with shipping and fees. Or just offer a local pickup price. I certainly give even better deals for local so I don’t have to risk shipping

I want to know my all in price when I see an ad.

When I sell I post a price that includes shipping then specify an additional amount if PP g&s is used to pay

Which is why you message a zip and get an accurate quote to your door. Bingo. All in price. Want protection? Add it to your total.

I can’t be bothered with getting shipping quotes for everyone who asks. I’ve done enough selling to about what it costs to ship things.

As a buyer I don’t want to deal with that either. I think in that case I personally would just offer a price that included shipping.

Or I’d send a shipping label. I wish more people would set up shipping accounts. Would make things easier. Just sell as $x plus fees and label. You don’t need any weight or dimensions on the label either… all that gets recalculated at the shipper anyway (FedEx/ups)

That’s the problem - nothing moves here and no one asks. If I’m including shipping costs I’m including worst case lower 48 opposite coast costs which isn’t fair to someone that’s on the same coast.

As far as the label is concerned, if you’re off on your weight and size they will charge the owed difference on your account automatically. You’re still responsible for correct weight/dimension, just are you comfortable letting a carrier charge your account for any errors a month later.

Well when I ship I put the correct weight/dimensions. But it doesn’t matter. They always remeasure. If I’m the buyer who is paying for shipping, it doesn’t matter either. They just calculate the charge when they get it. I’m not saying put 10 pounds on a 50 pound box to get cheaper shipping. The cost is the cost regardless.

When I sell stuff… I don’t want the back and forth BS. I put enough info in my ads so that all they have to do is say “I’ll take it, what’s your payment info”. In most cases dudes who are back and forth with all the questions like I’m 411 tend to be the biggest pain in the ass after the fact. Lol

I don’t BS either. I actually take the package to a ups store to get the accurate weight and dimensions before I print my own label to ship it off. I’m close to a ups store so it’s no extra work for me. Like you said you’ll pay shipping cost whether you lie up front or not. I rather someone see what I’m trying to net and if they want a shipping cost for a $65 lbs box I’m happy to get an initial quote for them.

Well I don’t pack stuff until I have cash, so your method wouldn’t work for me. Lol

I don’t pack stuff until it sells either. But like you said, I’ve shipped enough stuff and know my packing material costs to know what a no bullshit to your front door cost is if I have an accurate zip.

People don’t realize how expensive it is to ship something anymore pirate ship or not. I don’t like adding those costs to my initial price because people see something without shipping and only see a cheaper price so they go for that instead.

I usually would say:

$XX PayPal gift + shipping.

That price is the cash price and then I'll get a shipping quote based on your zip, the size of the box and my estimate of the weight.
