Hey dudes OK opinions... I have noticed that if you run the master on a module wide open for cleans and then just increase the gain to match the other channels volume the module is much brighter. This effects pedals big time. It makes them really really bright for example.

BMAN module ch1. Gain at 10 o clock master at full so call that 5 o clock. Clean sounds killer. Kick in a fuzz pedal and ouch that is shrill. Then try ch1 BMAN gain at 1 o clock and master at3 o clock clean is no bad and fuzz is darker.

If I try ch2 set to break up a bit (gain at 11 ocklock and master at noon) fuxx is really dark.

Sooooo question is on BMAN, VX, T/D ch1 where do you guys set the gain and master?????

Thx

I try to set most module masters around noon. The BMAN / Twin are a bit higher, and the COD is lower. That works the best with things in the effects loops...as the module masters are too hot typically past that and clipping starts. On my M4, I run the master for the entire M4 at noon.

Gains are all to taste honestly.

Eric helpful as always. Side note for you what tubes are you running in v1 and v2 of the SL2X. Still Chinese (a or b) in v1 and tung sol in v2??

No problem at all. SL2X - V1 - Chinese 12ax7a, and TS12ax7 in V2.

For the past few days, I've been running my BMAN module master at full, gain around noon.

I think it sounds incredible this way, some added presence and punch. But it could just be my imagination.

Mind you, I'm not using anything in the loop at the moment...

Yyep I was doing almost that and clean it sounds killer. But try stepping on a boost like a tube screamer or a fuzz and tell me if your ears survive the shrill high end. Pedals sound totally thin and shrill through a maxed module master on clean module channels. Different than any other amp I own. Gotta try rolling the master to noon and see otherwise I gotta find a way to run the fuzz on another module or channel

Well... since I have 4 channels set up (clean, crunch, rhythm, lead) I can proudly say that in a live band context, I don't use pedals...

BUT... I'm going to try one out with by BMAN this weekend and see what the deal is.

This brings up an interesting question.

It's a fact that guitar volume pots (without any fancy resistor/cap kits) do cut some high end when you roll them down.

And Fender amps, with just a single volume control, use bright caps to "add" treble when engaged.

Do master volume controls, on an amplifier, or module, react similarly to a guitar volume pot, where treble lost as you roll them down?

Nick I think you may be right or at least in the Eggie module masters. We need Hilly or Bruce to tell us the real deal though. But I suspect you are right. I know my Super Reverb is much much darker at lower volumes. I always thought that was a Fletcher–Munson effect louder = better to the human ear.

HMmmmm

Side note I was A/B'ing the Ch A BMAN to the Ch A T/D with my fuzz pedal today and it really really makes the differences noticable in the two tones. I knew they always felt different but never could tell exactly why. >>>>The fuzz pedal made the good and bad of both really stand out.

So question... what module do you guys run fuzz pedals through? I never really need dirt or dist pedals because the eggie covers that better than any pedal but fuzz well that is a pedal thing.

You runnin fuzz or dirt pedals on that channel ever? I have actually not tried this fuzz pedal through my VX. I am gonna do that next!

The bright switches in modules are designed as such that they add treble at lower gain settings and the effect is diminished as you turn the gain up. They are dependent on each other.
