People who make a living off the fossil fuel industry aside, I think most people would be perfectly content with renewable energy. If it was reliable, abundant and affordable. Forcing poor people to pay exorbitant prices for mobility, heat and comfort seems, eh, excessive. Especially considering the very real probability that it is meaningless in the long run. It's great that New Zealand captures rainwater ( removing it from the world's supply of fresh water by the way) and produces it's electricity via sustainable and responsible methods. But it really doesn't do shit as long as we allow China and India and developing countries to rape the planet. And the global economic implications are beyond the ability of anyone here to fully understand. For example, eliminate oil as a primary fuel source and the entire middle east goes back to being a 4th world shithole.
Anyway, I do my part as best I can to not have a negative impact on the environment. And I'm not going to go into detail about how just so I can virtue signal, like the fucking douchebag that started this thread does.

It's not excessive, it's just a great way to control people. Can't afford to travel, shiver all winter and get sick....and die. Same people selling this stuff are the same people telling us earth is overpopulated. It's not overpopulated, they just have a hatred for humanity and greed. You live near St. Louis, a huge metro, what do you expect? No offense but these are problems related to choices you've made less than they are tied to a lack of rural areas. You could sell tomorrow. Most of the southwest is empty. You could head south into N Arkansas, place has all kinds of isolated areas and plenty of wood to cut and water to access. And tbh I pretty much feel the same way, living amongst 15 million people in central Texas. And it's growing. But, if you want employment opportunities then short of farming you need to be in proximity to an area where there are people and money providing those opportunities. Everything is a trade off. It's a matter of deciding what is most important to you.

I see lots of solar and wind installations going up right alongside my energy bill so that's not being proven true in the real world. The same people selling green energy and environmentalism are putting up server farms in places where the demand for energy, and water, is straining available resources. It's all about control. If those people gave a shit about the environment they'd put a leash on china and india but those are the places making them rich via slave labor.

By the way, here are the per capita CO2 emissions for USA, India and China.
United States, around 14 tonnes per person;
China, around 8-9 tonnes per person;
India, around 2 tonnes per person.
