My band played our first show in five years last night. It was the first time I got to play my Spawn in a live situation. It was also the first gig using the Two Notes Torpedo Captor X to send to the front of house. I was using an IR of the EVH 412 (The cab I actually use.) I thought it turned out well. Using my Les Paul Classic loaded with Aldrichs in this clip.

Clip sounds great. Band sounds great. Killer guitar tones and killer playing. Splawns just cut through the mix so, so well.

GD that sounded good. I just love the way Splawn sound live moving air.

You boys are damn good...and the Singer can get it done!

That sounds great, really good sound. Nice job.

Killer name too !!!

Thanks guys! It was so awesome to get on stage again. Thanks to COVID, it took a lot longer than we had planned. I was super impressed with the Splawn in a live setting. We broke up just after I bought it. Lol. So it’s been waiting to be cranked at a show.

I would never know that the amp was direct mic'd....... The Splawn sounds really mean and aggresive, it's just growly and crunchy in all the right ways. Don't sell that amp! Alot of guys on here are chasing that Marshall tone!

Your band sounds great as well, I 'd jam out to you guys, great job!!!!!!!!! Your playing sounds great as well Joel, I didn't hear any clams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great! Almost makes me sad I will be moving my Quickrod out shortly!

That being said, I would happily get one again if I were to ever go in that direction again. (Though I may actually go for a Competition rather than a QR, as I don't need a clean channel, and 50 watts would be fine)

Sounds great. I was looking the at Captor X to go with my Splawn also.

Thanks! My Splawn is actually a 2005 ProMod. The previous owner had converted it to EL34s (basically making it a QuickRod). Even though I technically have a "Clean" channel, I really don't. The gain knob for the dirty channel is tied to the clean channel. So if I adjust the gain knob above 12:00, it basically means that you don't have cleans on your clean channel. To get the amount of gain that I like to use, I run my gain knob at 1:00 using OD1 on Gear 3. I'll jump to OD2 if we hit a part that I want to sound "heavier." It works out with this particular band- as I typically don't write clean parts...lol!

The Captor X has really helped with getting a consistent sound. We decided to go the IEM route this go around to eliminate the crappy monitor mix that is so prevalent in Houston area clubs. The Captor X takes the poor club mics out of the equation. I was extremely impressed with how my guitar sounded the other night. I will say that I went with loading IRs into it rather that using their cab sims. It just sounded better to me. That said, I didn't spend a ton of time tweaking the cab sims. My only complaint with the Captor X is that it NEEDS a less extreme attenuation setting than -20dB and -39dB. I wish they had a -10dB setting. I feel like that would be perfect. -20dB pretty much takes the cab out of the equation.

Here's another song from that night.

Sounds really good to me. I owe it to myself to give a Splawn a shot and have been thinking about moving an amp or two anyway so maybe now is the time.

Well done! Band sounds great! Amp sounds great! Amp to FOH sounds great! Captor X is a great product.

You guys are lucky to be able to have some gigs to play!

Thanks! Yeah, it's been crazy with the whole shutdown going on in Texas (and the rest of the country). We had to postpone this show twice over the summer. Thankfully, things are starting to open back up. We have two shows scheduled for November. One opening for Trapt. Hopefully, they will happen.

That was pretty inspiring, man. I'd love to see your settings on the Captor X and the Splawn for that gig. I have a JJ100 I'd be interested in trying out this method with. I am such a simple 'plug-in-play' and I still want to feel my amp and cab on the stages we play.

Great song, chops, and tone, brother!

Below is a screenshot from my Two Notes app and my amp settings. I'm using two OwnHammer IRs of the EVH 412 cab. One is with an SM57 and the other is with a Royer 121. I'm using the EQ section in the Captor X to shelve the bass below 120 hertz to keep it from geting muddy. I think I have it set to -3dB.

Untitled by Joel Ducote,

My amp settings rarely change from this. The EQ looks a bit strange, but my QR has a ton of bass and midrange on tap. I will occasionally mess with the presence knob if I feel like I need some more aggressive bite. I should mention that the 2005 Splawns are much more aggressive sounding than the newer updated models. I should also mention that although my volume looks low... this is enough to tear your head off without an attenuator. This thing goes from off to knock shit off the walls in a hurry. I basically bring the volume up enough to get the bottom end of the amp into the picture. I've had it up to noon once. That was an experience. This is by far the loudest amp I have ever owned.
