Clip: Mesa OS vs Traditional

What I can hear in this video reminds me why I didn’t really like the tall old Basketweve Marshall 4x12 cab I had and always preferred the regular size Marshall 4x12s.
The former looked crazy cool ala Hendrix but all the later sounded better to me in the room for most sounds.

Actually, I like them both. I could see both of them sounding good with different amps.

I actually think that OS sounds closer to the Marshall standard size with the T75 speakers.

In the vid, you had the OS cab in the corner, and yeah it wasn't great.
Did you try the OS cab in other locations in the room?
Just wondering if that had anything to do with your thoughts on the OS cab

That's not my video (and not me). Just one I found on YT today from Analog Eddie. I think he's here on the forum, but I forgot his user name.

My exact experience. Originally bought the oversized, then progressed to a traditional. I fell in love immediately with the traditional the sound in my head.

Different sounding cabs for sure. Putting the OS in the corner for a room A/B comparison is not doing it any favors, though lol. They're already a bit boomier, and that spot is just going to increase the boominess picked up in the room.

The boominess ain't the issue for me. It's the lack of mids and piercing highs. Just not the sound I like. And having owned an OS and used it in many different rooms, it sounded pretty much identical to the one in this video. So I don't think the corner has much to do with it.

My first Mesa 412 OS was a 2009 model that hadn't been played a lot. Being my first Mesa cab I was so excited but when it arrived my VHT 2530 crashed it lol Boomy is the best word to describe it. I got lucky and it was sold a week later. Some years later I got a nice offer for a well played 2004 one. It sounded glorious especially when paired with my Mesa Tremoverb and I decided to keep it. I still love it and it excels at recording.

Have you played a trad cab?
