sup folks,

i posted this over at HCAF.. and scott reminded me i should share it with you dudes too. i reckon the silent sister is the best home recording solution ive tried yet. and ive owned a palmer, and a cupla pods.

ive been away from making my own music for a while coz ive been recording bands full time (check out my top friends on https://www.myspace.com/zorran) but i made a new clip coz i got some new gear. most of the songs i write go to my 2 bands, so yeah.. that just leaves the odd clip



i was in india recently producing a band and caught up with some friends.. one of whom is a drummer. we wrote the song and recorded the drums in a day, so there isnt much creativity happening riffwise..its mainly a silent sister clip.

the silent sister is an iso box from rivera.. and they seem to have solved the typical boxy iso cab problem. its pretty quiet too.. band practice volumes and you can have a conversation over it.

the guitar chain was a prs mccarty with bareknuckle crawlers > mesa mark IV > silent sister > sennheiser md 421 > api 512c > rme fireface 800.

please comment on the tone and mix
 
How high is the master volume at on that recording using the Silent sister? I've had a couple of MIV's in the past, just want to get a general idea of volume levels. Was the MIV boosted? Sounds nice!

hahah no problem scott :p

cyndicate, the master was at about 2 i think, which is pretty loud.. and the iso box was right next to me. could track with headphones easy. if i kept it in another room id have no problems tracking through speakers. no boost.. just straight guitar to amp :) i do want to pick up an empress para eq big time though.

That is pretty loud, I really dig the IV for metal tones, sounds really aggressive and raw
 
Damm. Sounds freaking great. That shows off the kind of gain and balls a Mark IV has. :rock:
 
At last listening with a good system, sounds awesome!!!

Yeah I aint got no gas for the MK V :thumbsup:
 
Was this all 6L6 or El34's in the outer sockets because that could explain the extra bright taste. which sounds very good in the mix.
 
Bitchin! I had a set of Crawlers in my PRS awhile back, wish I still had em'.

@ sebby : interesting you mention that.. i was using the amp with 26l6 and 2 el34s and took it to a local tech. thats because i started to notice the clean had no headroom and i wanted to check if there was something wrong with the amp. he basically said that the 2 tubes have very different bias points, and its almost impossible to bias it so that both of them sound good. he put in some winged c 6l6s and it sounds real good atm. so yeah.. all 6l6s atm :)

@ Jtyson : its just really big and clear, all the transients are intact. it doesnt really impart its flavour onto the sound as such, but it does make everyting sound really good in the mix. id reccommend it over any other pre for guitars. for vocals perhaps an avedis ma5.

@ Shiny : fuck yeah man.. i will definately be checking one out. my next amp though is gonna be this bad boy: http://www.miamplification.com.

thanks for checking it out everyone :) just wanted to put a clip of the silent sister out there. its truly a great recording solution for home.
