Restrung last night and was goofing around with some little tone tests.

Here's how the Uber and MTL sound against each other for straight up high gain

Bogner Uberschall Original:

Wizard MTL Mk2:

the Uber was more cutting w upper mids.
The wizard was a hair….. muddy? Muddled? I dunno it didnt have the note clarity i usually associate with wizard.

Could be the downtuning though - what are you in? B?

I like the riff.

Listening through an iphone speaker though lol

Thanks for the feedback and I hear similar things.

Good ear, yep I'm in B

I changed the JJ pre tubes to Ruby's, have the bright on 5, presence on 8 and treble on 8 so i'm driving the highs in the amp pretty hard.
But agree it's still a little muddy compared to the Uber in this tuning at least.

In this comparison the MTL's sorta "gut punch" voicing kinda reminds me of the Framus Cobra but with a tad less clarity.

its tough to tell with one center track, a left and right track would be better. the bogner sounds bigger with a little more depth to the tone so id probably go with that
there's definitely more depth and low lows in the uber.

i'll do something with a double track and rough mix next time ?

I have both these amps .love both and they blend well live at same time . On the wizard I love the bright knob way up . It cuts through great especially down tuned . Cool riffs man

I find when I crank the bright I lose all the body and lows... like it's almost a high pass filter?

I might try cranking the bright but also increase the lows and depth to see what that does.

In this clip I have the bright on 5, depth 5 and bass 6

Somehow - the first go round, the Wizard seemed to cut better with a bit more zing. But I listened again, 3 more times - and with the low tuning, upon 2nd, 3rd and 4th listens, the Uber had a way richer subharmonic grind. Now, I *know* that grind - personally. That grind is what sets the OG Rev apart from so many others (TJ has it too, slightly different, but same DNA). It's only knowing this and having to listen for it that makes me go "Bogner sounds better" in this particular instance - but my first gut reaction was the Wizard out of the gate had more zing.

I do exactly what you said . Then I gate it

The bright is set at 3:00 on every Wizard I own. Then every other knob at 1:00 except for midsat 11-12:00. For the MTL saturation at 11:00

They both sound great, but the Wizard has a bit of a grainy high end and sounds a bit generic to me. The Uber has a low mid grind that just sounds right and glorious.

I know what you're talking about. It's weird after a couple of listens how your ears adjust and hear different things. I hear more 'sizzle' on the uber which seems to work for the low tunings. I guess a little similar to what a recto brings
